Hi guys,
Time for alternator replacement, brushes must be getting noisy, TC is starting it's lock unlock cycle again..
Can't seem to find a new Nippondenso unit, but NAPA will sell me a new Bosch unit for about $250.. Any differences or problems with that?
I know to stay away from the reman units and the NO name replacements...

Pete, what State are you in??? Denso offers a dealer directory by State. None in Maine, but some in Massachusetts for example.

Found Part Number Here, I believe this is new..121000-3630 117 amp.

Thanks for that link, I might have to see if I can find a part number on the actual alternator . The PN that is listed above is the same for pretty much all Dodge trucks from that era, including the Dakota.. Find it hard to believe the would not put something bigger on a diesel..the Bosch was listed as 136 amp I believe..
Located in NW Ohio..
Standby for more detail.

I couldn't remember the amperage.......I'll fool with it a little more after I finish my orders.

The Partnumber from Dodge straight from the manual is 56027221AD, what cross-references via Rockauto and Amazon to a Denso 121000-4481. However the Denso website does not recognize this number, but their website is a little bizarre anyway, their engine selections are not quite right :) I might have to call them tomorrow.
Another alternate part number comes up as 210-0479, but that does not work either..
It's kinda weird, normally if you would type in a part number in either Google, Ebay or Amazon, you get lots of hits , with lots of options.. In this case, it does not show much, certainly not new available. It does show 136 Amp however,
Thanks for your help

At 500K miles I'm still running my original '95 alternator. It's been rebuilt twice at a local starter/alternator shop.

Yeah, but I see you have a nice 12v dropped in there:), so you don't have to deal with the brilliant Dodge electrical design of marginal wire size, poor wire routing, poor RF control and the interaction between TPS, ECM, TQ and ground.. I swear Dodge hired the guys that Lucas Electric in England layed off.
My alternator seems to work just fine , but I am starting to have the whole lock/unlock thing again, and I have done all the other fixes to deal with it, so I figured the alternator is probably getting a little noisy with 200k on it..
thanks for the help guys

Well, I actually got some daylight and a mirror, come to find out the alternator is actually a Bosch unit:cool: ( but it was described as a "Denso style " alternator)
I did manage to actually get some part numbers off of it, Bosch pn 0124525005 or Chrysler 56028239AB.. These are the numbers right off the unit.
The Bosch website shows new is not available, but remanned is available under Partnumber AL6400X, however non in the system
Got tired of looking, ordered a Napa top of the line overhauled/remanned unit.. Will see how well it works....
Thanks for everyones help

I haven't experienced that one new alternator performed any better than any other one. Over the years I have had several different brands-all apparently Chinese. I went with a new one from Auto Zone (another Chinese POS) simply for the warranty. They have a lifetime warranty and will replace it without question if it fails. I've already replaced it when the transmission began to lock/unlock again. I love my Napa folks and rarely go elsewhere. But, I got tired on spending money on new alternators to correct this issue. Even if I rebuild it, non-Chinese parts are difficult to find nowadays. Since we know that the issue will reoccur, why not go with one that you can replace at no cost. Just my 2 cents.
