I know with gasser that altitude has a significant effect on performance. I havent seen a solid answer as to how much altitude effects the cummins. So I ask now:rolleyes: ... how much if any does altitude effect it? I am really interested in this because dyno and 1/4 mile times that I see would be effected.

It would have to effect it, because with higher elevation, the less molecules of oxygen per liter of air. Somehow, I think it may not effect a diesel as much as a gasser because of the turbo. Just a guess on my part.

Good question, maybe someone with more experience at different altitudes will drop a line or two.

Altitude

You can figure a 2% loss of hp per 1000 ft. for a turbocharged engine.

That means that my 03 ctd has only 183 hp. at 6,000 ft. ,no wonder I am having A hard time pulling my 2 Axel cargo tlr.

4Me,

What they say figures to be true. I had to dyno my truck to register it in Colorado. Colorado Springs is approximately 6,500 ft elevation. I have a 2001 ETH/DEE (advertised 245 hp) and it dyno'd at 215hp. So their figures work out pretty good. The guys who dyno'd my truck were shocked to see that. They asked what I had under the hood... surprise, no bombs to the engine.

Is that dyno test a Smog test?My 03 has a windshield sticker that

read's Colorado smog exempt, was your test a County requirement? I would bet A dollar to A dough-nut you have more

rear wheel H/P than my 03! GWD

Your'e mixing apples with oranges. . The HP rating from the factory is at "flywheel", and the dyno # is rear wheel.
