Archived altnator good and no charge??

Help please: I had low volt showing yesterday so I drove to auto zone had them check system and stated that batts were low but all seemed good / I then had to work for the day but on way back to motel about 30 miles night driving lights got dim at 10 vols check guages lite came on by the time I made it to motel air bag lite and others was on and down to 7 volts / this morning took alt off walked to zone had them test and all was good / bought batt charger charged for a while and drove to advanced to test again they stated no charge from alt ? went to zone and same results now batts are dead again / fuse is good connections are good / what do I do next?? still at motel now waiting to fix truck??? and charging batts again.
 
come on guys I need this thing going : pcm / temp sensor under batt / what do I look for ? what checks do I need to do? been messin with it all day today and no good paid for another night at motel: Jasper, Al. now
 
I have a 98. 5 ,I would suggest you get the codes read. pehaps one of the auto stores will do it for you. It will give you a place to start. The voltage rgulator is in the pcm or ecm cant remember which.
 
Did you by chance change your oil before the trip?If so the alternator fuse may have been takin out. Not to rare for somebody to short the alt to ground during the filter removal.

I have code reader and have checked for codes none was found, did have oil changed about 4 days ago checked continuity of what looked good fuse and shown good fuse but will probaly buy 1 any way tomorrow. good ifo keep it comming please.

the main fuse will be about a 140 amp in the pdc
 
check for a pinched or broken wire that comes off the back of the alt. and make sure you don't have an open line I just had to have my 140amp fuse because of some idot changing my oil blew it what town are you in maybe someone might be close and could give ya a hand
 
sorry thought this was curent 911 I have checked all that is mentioned so far, charged batts fully and drove to hackleburg al. probaly going to order ecm monday so I can get back to work. but now going to check link you posted to see if can find some other ideas thanks guys... .
 
I had the same problem and thought it was cam position senser,because the ecm will not charge without signal that moter is turning over from cam senser. But mine turned out to be one of those fuses on the main pdb on fender. They looked fine,but i started pulling them and testing continuity and bingo. After a new altenator and cam sensor later. hope this helps,Quentin
 
A few things to check.

Batt temp sensor under drivers side battery has a 2 pin connector. This sensor should ohm between 9 and 11K at 75 to 80 degrees Farenheight.

Second is fuse # 6 30 amp at PDC which feeds contacts on the Automatic shutdown relay that when energized feeds a sense circuit to the PCM. The coil of the automatic shutdown relay is energized from the ignition switch and fuse #9 10 amp at the inside cab fuse block. You could also have a bad relay among many other electrical gremlins.

12 valves don't have cam sensors... ... ... ... . maybe engine speed sensor?

well got truck back: 150. 00 labor charge later and I went exchanged alt and charging is working now after they stated at other a zone the alt was tested good...
