There are two that I'm aware of. The Mag Hy-tec and another made by PML. The Hy-tec is about a hundred dollars more than the PML. I bought a PML and it seems be be a high quality cover.

Thanks guys. Do either of these provide good cooling for rear diff? I tow trailers for a living and my rear axel housing has gotten hot enough to bake the paint right off it. I had problems with this rear axel ever since I bought the truck. It would start to howl somrthing fierce at about 70mph. It would drive you right out of the cab. It has been rebuilt 3 times and seems to now be ok. The truck is a 2003 and has 143,000 miles on it.

I had the same problem with my 11. 5 AA in that it baked the paint off the cover near the ring gear area. I'm sure that the aluminum cover with some synthetic gear oil would be a welcome relief to your 11. 5 AA. Like I said before I'm running the PML with heavy AmsOil 90-140 and I tow a bit. Never have had a problem.

I can bet my last paycheck that your rear end didn't get hot enough to bake off the factory paint. It's a factory issue as it pertains to the quality of paint used at AAM and it "peeling" off. Think about it if your rear end had actually got hot enough to bake the paint off, you would have done massive damage to bearing, seals and the like.

Side note mine had baked? "peeled" off before I ever towed with the truck.

Mac
