I've been trying to find where to buy a bumper on a 2nd gen ram. It looks like it's aluminum, and I've seen several like it on some 3rd gens, but can't find where to buy one for my 2nd gen. It was on a red Ram on page 100 in TDR Issue 65. The caption says the truck is owned by Phillip Brand of New Jersey. So perhaps if no one knows where to find one of these bumpers, maybe there's a way for me to track Phillip down and ask him himself. If anyone knows how I could do that that would be helpful in my search for that bumper im tryin to find.

Denver - Offroad

The Bumper on Page 100 of Issue 65 looks like a Ute Ltd. Bumper out of Australia.
They are no longer available and I am unaware if they are still in business. Their website no longer works.

The Bumper I have is from Denver Offroad out of Fruita Colorado. They make aluminum second gen bumpers.

Nice quality. I have had mine over nine years.
My Model would be considered the Safari Model.

He can only be contacted by Telephone

That's the sort of thing I am also looking for, but not in any hurry. I also need to be able to mount a spare tire on the front bumper as well. Anybody seen something similar that'll do that?

Well that's just my luck lol. But I do like the Denver offroad bumpers too. How much do they roughly cost? More importantly, how do they stand up to a collision? I'm tired of fixing my front end and my bumper getting bent up, I need something that will take a hit. Will these aluminum bumpers hold up or should I look for a heavy steel bumper instead?

The aluminum will hold up. I have seen these bumpers take some hits. It uses 1/4 aluminum on the front face with 3/8 on the top and bottom.
Personally i had a friend of mine back up into my bumper with no damage. He had to replace his tailgate.
Price for the bumper will be in the 1500 - 2k range. depending on options.
I looked at Big steel Bumpers and decided Aluminum is the way to go with the weight of the Cummins on the front axle. My opinion.

2nd generation bumpers should be cheaper. They don't have the complicated headlight reliefs the 3rd gens do.

I've had a Denver Off Road (DOR) aluminum bumper on two of my trucks, one 2nd gen and one 3rd gen. You will not be disappointed in the build quality, fit, and weight.

If money wasn't so tight right now I definitely would put on on my current truck. Since I lived in WY, I was able to drive down to CO and save the shipping costs. I also had a Herd aluminum bumper, that I sold to a friend to pay for my first DOR. The DORs are much stouter and better designed in my opinion. Laine (spelling?) the fellow who makes them at his shop in Fruita is one heck of a nice guy who treated me very well.

I have had my DOR for 7 or 8 years now. It still looks as good as it did new. I havent hit another vehicle with it but last year I hit a big ol deer doing 65mph just right of center on the bumper. Aside from having to pull some hair off of it there was zero damage to truck or bumper. And Trail Dog is right Layne is one heck of a nice guy and his craftsmanship is excellent.

Denver Off Road used to sell the UTE bumpers. I bought one about 8 years ago and it cost me between $1500 and $2000 to get it to my door. The bumper is very nice and gets lots of positive comments. The bumper arrived with an absolutely perfect polish. I has never looked the same since I unwrapped it. I will probably have it bed-lined or powder coated sometime in the future.

I can vouch for Lane, as I just returned from his shop yesterday. He built a bumper for my 01 without all the bars on top. Excelent craftmenship and a super guy to work with. The bumper is as strong as a steel one and weighs about 150 pounds. DO NOT use a steel one on a second Gen Dodge. The front frame horns are a weak design and the huge weight difference will put your front axle and front suspension parts over thier design limits. If you want a custom, best of class bumper, this is the one to get. If anyone want's to see a picture of mine, E-Mail me at MULESKINNER1@WILDBLUE. NET and I will send you some pictures.

I checked out that companies web site. I would like to see one of their products up close. They claim their bumpers weigh 85 pounds. Lane's weigh around 150 pounds. That's because he uses 3/8" plate super strong Aluminum from Australia. They must be using 1/8" plate. You get what you pay for. One off type custom quality vs production line stuff. But their bumpers look pretty on the site.

DOR's is definitely a stouter product. Aluminess' product is built one at a time,by maybe four guys. No production line. They do have a pic of a Sportsmobile running over a concrete K Rail with minimal damage to the bumper or van. If I had the bucks DOR's got it.

DOR's pricing is very comparable. Maybe cheaper. One other nice thing about Lane is he will make changes and customize to your needs.
