AM/FM Stereo Radio with CD Player/GPS Navigation

I just ordered a truck to take delivery in Jan 05 and have a question about the optional AM/FM Stereo Radio with CD Player/GPS Navigation?



Is it a touch screen?

Where is the DVD CD located?

Can you store waypoints?

Does it show Lat / Lon ?



Is there a way to use XM radio (have already) or should I get the Sirius option?



I have been a Garmin GPS user since the introduction and hope the Dodge is a decent comparison.

My new truck I just got has g p s system which Is different then my wifes E class Chrysler Hemi. The one In the truck Is complety different then the car. I don't think I am going to like the one In the truck. First I got to learn to use It. Time will tell I guess. The G P S system In the Chrysler Is very simple to use. The one In the truck did not work and the dealer just got a new one Installed. I have only had It for a day and got to learn how Its works.

I have 04. 5 with factory GPS no dvd no touch screen the cd is 1 disk on top, sat radio ready, easy to work shows lat long, stores way points, measures alt and distance pulses, no moving map, but has a semi sexy female voice that tells you when to turn +-30 ft. I too like garmin but it is well worth the$ for the nav radio. I use it all the time to get lat long for my satloc to mark fields for my spray plane

I ordered my 05 with the Nav-Con option. The idea that DC incorporates is never take your eyes off the road. All commands and prompts are voice activated as are the directions you receive from the unit. Once you try it, it's nice not to be looking at a screen while in motion.

One thing I would like to add... If you like the RB4 from the ram... You would really like the RB1 from the caravan, total DVD system... IMO, i would spend money on a Laptop and the $129 for the software a GPS sensor from www.gpscity.com as opposed to the money spend on the RB4, unless they start putting in RB1's

I just ordered mine without & then had the RB1 installed. So far so good but I don't like the fact that you can't listen to a CD while you're navigating unless you install a CD changer... . that's rediculous!

Tomeygun: Forget about the RB-1, the new DVD Nav from the '05 Grand Cherokee is the bomb! Separate DVD-ROM drawer, six-disc in-dash changer, plays MP-3's, huge screen with maps and interest points... constantly updates as you drive and always shows your position. On top of that, the Boston Acoustics speakers and amps sound superior to the Infinity. Too bad the thing won't retrofit into any current, including '05 Rams. The RB-4 is a total pice of SH*TE!

Why?

I still don't know why anyone would order a ~$1500 RB4 option when you could get this for about the same (I paid $1379) and it's got way more features. I'll bet ya dollars to donuts it sounds a lot better than the RB1 or RB4 too. It also plays DVD's while you're mapping and has provision for a backup camera (great for those of us towing enclosed trailers that are hard to see around). Mine should be here this week! Oo.

etronics - although I noticed it went up to $1419 when I just checked it. Still a good deal. I also opted for the $99 5-year warranty from Philips. This is why I went with that place over another I found that was a few bucks cheaper... the warranty they offered was twice the price and not backed by a major name. It seemed like a small investment to cover something that's likely to break at least once during its useful life and I would bet it would cost a lot more than $99 to fix that unit just once!



BTW, I bought a video camera from that store a couple years ago and never had a problem. They seem reputable, even if on the virge of being 'gray market'. As long as I have a warranty and my wallet isn't in as much pain, who cares?

I really like the RB4 unit. I've never had a GPS in a vehicle before and it works ver well. I especially like being able to put in a street address and it finds it. There was someone on Ebay selling an RB1 out of their Jeep. The last bid I saw on it last night was $610. 00.

The RB1 on Ebay is the one I am selling. I also have one in my 3500. I bought both of them new on Ebay. I used to use a laptop with navigation software, I like the RB1 much better. It is far easier to use and of course does not use up valuable space. I am selling the RB1 from the jeep because I sold the jeep.

In my Dodge truck has the RB4 why In the world would anyone need longitude and latitude. Now If I was flying a plane and I am a pilot when flying you need this,but In a car or truck useless I think. I am a bit disappointed with this unit.

Off road, a good way to find out where you are is to use a topo map and the longitude/lat readings. Helps in determining property lines out in the bush... Tell your buddy where your tree stand is during hunting season... Find out if you are close to Area 51 of if the glow you are seeing is just from being in the sun too long and drinking too much cheap wine

I've been drooling over the AVIC-N1 for a while now. Unfortunately they only have an XM module for it. Being a Stern fan, I'm waiting to see if they develop a Sirius module for it.

They won't. Each manufacturer signs with one of the satellite companies and agrees not to offer products for the other. However, you can get the handheld sirus unit and plug it into the avic-n1 and just use the controls on the handheld unit for tuning yet still have just as good sound as if you had the head unit specific version. I am considering this as well...
