I have a 99 2500 CTD QC SB AT 4x4 w/ 107k Great shape that I'm thinking of trading in for a 2001. 5 3500 HO 6spd 4x4 97k.

They are offering (sight unseen) $17000 for mine and are selling the 01 for 25000. CarFax stated it was fine(two minor accidents-dent in bumper)

\

The 3500 has everything I have wanted(not needed).

WIth all the info given here am I heading into a good deal?

Thats up to you, personally I am keeping my 99. I tire of payments and Arizona registrations easily.

2 years closer to a bug free truck. Manual transmission. 2 more shoes to buy. Another 8k in the hole.

Tough call, prices seem kind of out of whack. Maybe 20k for yours or 22k for theirs. Check the paper for resale on your truck, and the 01 to make sure you are not getting taken for a 6 star ride.

i got my '01 3500 for $26000 out the door... ... 42,300 miles on it... when i got it... ... she is in mint con. . a little ding in tailgate...

it's been 6 months and i love my truck !!!!!!!!!!!!

the concrete guy :D :D

I just did a little research on www.edmunds.com and found that your truck should be worth 16. 5K - 18. 5K and theirs is in the 18K - 20K range.

Another source to check would be www.kbb.com .

I'm with these guys though, 8K diff is too much.

Duane <-- (cheap-skate)

I'm reposting... ... .

I started off by trying to explain to you why you should keep your old truck and then realized that you can't beat a 2001 HO (six speed) dually! Sorry, spend some more $$$ :D

First of all thanks for the responses. I appreciate your input.

Everytime I did the appraise your car it didn't come close to 17k. What am I doing wrong?

I'm seriously considering rebuilding the transmission (ATS) and leaving it at that.

I think I know what I'm doing wrong. I'm looking at trade-in value for mine and retail on the other which is a huge difference.

Unfortunately you are always going to get wholesale for your trade vs. retail on the truck you want. That's how the dealerships make their money. for example; my '01 was worth about $37,000 (canadian, before anyone has a cow!:) ) and they offered me $32,000. 00 for it on trade. The only way I could get the $37,000. 00 would have been to sell it privately and then take the cash and make a no-trade deal. Problem is I would then pay another $4,640. 00 in taxes. I ended up trading as it was a heck of a lot easier and I didn't have to wait.

As far as whether or not you should trade your truck for the '01 ETH/DEE, I'll leave the financial discussions to others. You know whether or not you can swing it. If you can, I think you'll be very pleased with the 6 spd and HO.

Dave

I'm going to put my eyes on this truck and go with my gut. Thanks for the advice. Anything I should pay special attention to in my inspection of the truck?

Take a fuel pressure measurement at WOT or get a flow test done. If it is out of spec. , I'd have to say walk away--you'll never know what kind of wear the injection pump has taken.

in my quest for looking for trucks recently... . i find the trade in value on you 99 to be somewhat fair as most dealers are trying to get 19,800 or so out of that year/mileage..... as far as the 01. 5, that is a ridiculous price ... . 22 or 23k TOPS is the most for that mileage, and i still think that is pushing it... i noticed there isnt much difference in prices between the 99 and 01's when the miles are around 100k... . good luck but i would seriously reconsider purchasing that truck or atleast talk them down to ATLEAST 23,000

One more thing to consider..... You stated

now that is going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $4000 to $5000 for the upgrade. You have to weigh that against the $8000 (negotiable) difference! I traded a 02 Sport with 4. 10/auto & 10,000 miles for an 02 Sport ETH/DEE, 3. 55 and 1200 mile for $5k difference. I too planned on doing a transmission upgrade. Would do it again in a heart beat! Good news guys! Went by the local dealer's used car lot by my house b/c my wife said she saw a Ram there. Long story short I'm the proud owner of a 2003 2500 SB 6spd. HO 4x4 with only 56 miles!

Thanks for all the help!

Dumb question... . what turbo would this truck have?

sound's like you found a lot better truck, And I would guess your happier by your post. congrats. thats what matters .

Since I just purchased a new used pickup, I would like to Re iterate the Kbb I would say it is imparative you be informed when you go in that sales floor, I took the value of my trade and the value of their trk with me, Nothing worse for a salesman when you sit down and you whip out your info. I love the look on their

face, Then you have fighting power, I paid 3k less than retail and got full trade for my trk. especially if the trk has been on the lot for awhile, They are ready to deal. I even beat them down a point on finance. Sad ending. there service dept. SUCKS!

What model and options did you price out? I've been to busy working my booth at shows, and delivering products to make a decision. I was able to drive an '04 6-speed 4x4, but nobody has a 4x2 for me to drive. That's as far as I've gotten since I called you a couple of months ago regarding hauling trailers. How's the new regulations working for you? Everyone I've talked with about my license status, tells me I don't need to get a CDL, that my class "D" is fine. I'll probably try and get a class "A" w/o airbrakes, but haven't been able to find any place to take the driving test.
