I just caught this now. Some story. Another member, now dormant, had his 2 gen, trailer and some Harley's stolen down at bike week. Fast forward some years, and his bike (truck was never found) was located in Ohio. He got the bike back.

I hooked up my scanner once I got home and found it giving me the death code P0216. Hey 216 code can also be a bad connection. I was getting it on mine took me 3 weeks to track down the connection. It is the big one on the firewall with the white bale. Also check the vp 44 connection they do loosen up, or the a&^%$ could have messed with it. didn,t read all of post, see you are already rebuilding. Looking good.

Here she is sitting nicely in the engine bay. I have only driven 20 miles or so and have tightened the head studs twice now. It runs very smooth and it seems to have good power. I have only gone half throttle and she comes on strong. I will be driving it more this week after I install the ARP rocker arm studs and re-adjust the valves lash.

A friend made this for me. I am not completed with the paint job yet but it looks great. I need to paint the tips of the letters white and outline with the blue to really bring it in. The white back ground is flat white and the blue is the same as the
engine. I will also put 6 coats of clear on the blue for the final touches.

So I got my APR Rocker Arm Studs yesterday and you can clearly see the differance. These are very high quality and cheap insurance if your plannning on installing bigger stiffer springs because the stock bolts are not up to the task. Tools of choice are a ratching T tap wrench and cotton swabs. I can't stress enough to buy a high quality bottom tap it is worth the money. I used the bottom tap to clean and fininsh tapping the holes all the way to the bottom which wasn't very much. I used the
cotton swabs to remove all the oil and metal shavings from the holes which worked very well. Just us extreme caution when cleaning out the holes not to drop and of the metal shaving down inside the bottom of the head. Tonight I will set the valve lash and run it around for a bit.

JR the air cleaner does not have a cover and I am changing it out for a S&B unit within the month.

Subscribed to this thread and looking forward to seeing your truck back to 100%. I bought my wife a 2001.5 Ram 2500 in Patriot Blue with 2 tone silver off of Craigs list from an owner who had ALL the services done at the dealer where he bought it. Eventually I will restore both trucks much in the same fashion you have. REALLY sorry about your baby being stolen. We as a nation need to go back to prison restitution/work camps for crimes like this.

Just my humble suggestion........get rid of that gauze/oil air filter. These types of filters are absolutely NOT suitable for diesel engines and will eventually ruin them by letting very fine dust particles get by the filter and into the engine wreaking havoc with pistons, piston rings, turbos, oil, etc. Use a good quality paper filter. A Donaldson B105006 or a Feetguard AH19037 BHAF with a nice matching blue Outerwares prefilter over the BHAF is a tough combination to beat for excellent air flow and particle filtration.

Best of luck with your restoration. I will indeed be looking forward to your future posts.
