Well, I've searched and looked and tried everything to answer my questions and have found answers to pretty much everything except... how do I adjust the stock torque plate? I understand it's in the inline pump somewhere, but I haven't been able to find any procedure on how to mess with it. For now I just want a little more power. #ad
I don't know that a ton more would do me much good, I'm already having to upshift fairly quickly (Gimme a 6th gear, please. #ad
)

I was able to mess with the AFC star wheel and help the slight lugging after the 2-3 shift (It's not bad if I shift at 2200-2500rpm), just get a little pre-boost smoke that's only noticable if I'm looking right at the exhaust pipe, I can't see it in the rear view.

I may tackle the cat tomorrow to get it overwith, the truck has 127k miles on it so I'll have to do something with it sooner or later.

Oh! More questions from the newbie (Don't hate me, please. #ad
), for many years now I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic in all my vehicles (rebuilt 302 in a '47 Jeep, '98 Jeep, '96 Ford that was just traded for the Dodge, and on and on) and have read that it's ok to use in the Cummins, but is it worth it? I know it is without a doubt in gassers, but how does it compare to Delo or Rotella as far as lubrication and longevity? Bottomline, is there enough of a benefit to justify the 2-3x cost premium? Logic tells me no, even though I'm an avid Mobil 1 user, simply because the engines last nearly forever as it is... but, if I can get 600k miles out of the engine instead of 400k, then I can see the benefit.

Thanks for all the info, this place is great.

Woohoo! Thanks to everyone that gave me pointers on where to find info on sliding the torque plate, I tackled that earlier tonight and I gotta tell ya, what a difference! I was happy with the performance before the change, but now there's just a bunch more power, especially when boost is up. Pushes me back into the seat a bit more. #ad
Thanks again guys, I think I'm going to leave it alone for now, except for gauges, and see how it does towing what I tow. I don't think there'll be a problem. #ad
Now I'm just going to kick back and enjoy it. #ad

Mobile 1 does NOT I REPEAT NOT meet the API CG-4/CH-4 rating.

Check out the API Website at: http://www.api.org/programs_services/quality/enginoil.htm

Thy have an Adobe download site that tells one all about the API ratings.

Mobil 1 oils have a CF rating, which was established in 94 for Off Road Use. This is a diesel rating but not the best for your Cummins. It doesn't meet the CF-4 rating. Check out this site. You make the call! By the way - if we want to see the oil industry's take on fuel prices - check out the basic API site.

Ok, I looked at the Mobil 1 site and the Delvac 1 is the synthetic they have for the diesels. How does it compare? #ad
Thanks for the heads up on the Mobil 1. I would've made sure it met the ratings before using it, I had just read that it was ok to use so I thought I'd get some other opinions. I want to get the most life out of my engine if the cost is reasonable. Thanks! #ad

Hogan, being that our motors require nearly 3 gallons on a change, running expensive synthetics is just that... expensive. Personally, I know that Amsoil is a wonderful product and use it in the racer... but for the diesel I run Rotella or Delo and change it somewhere between 5000-8000miles, depending on how I use the truck. The 95 I bought new was treated like that, and the new owner who calls me occationally reports well over 200k miles and things are perfect! Enjoy!
