Ok guys, I need your honest advice.

I have a 98. 5 24V with extras, (see sig. ). I drive the truck like a car in that all it has ever towed was a 6x12 Uhaul from Phoenix to Denver. The truck has never been wrecked and has a constant coat of wax on it. . It has lived in Phoenix so it has never seen salt. Basically, it is brand new.

I'm thinking of selling it and getting a newer 2500 with a ETH and a 6spd. The bummer is that I bought my truck new and I know EVERYTHING about it. I don't like the idea of buying a truck without knowing the real history.

On the other hand, I figure I can get a good chunk of change for the dually and have some left over after I buy a newer 2500.

Should I take the risk or keep the truck I'm sure about?

I don't think you can expect to sell the 98. 5 dually, buy a 2001 or newer ETH and actually have money left over! But if that doesn't bother you, then by all means go for it! Life is too short not to! #ad

I was just in Ft. Collins over the weekend (up from So. Cal) for my sister's graduation from Vet school. Great place - great weather you showed us - Thanks! I saw a full four door conversion with the extended cab as well - It was a white dually and looked like a limo!

We are considering moving up that way and looked at homes between Ft. Collins and Boulder #ad
Wow, prices are high! Even compared to Southern California! Any tips?

You bet, take a chance. I dont regret selling my paid off '95 and buying a new '01. You will really like the six speed. I shift less now then my 5 speed. Awesome truck with quite a few improvements. Just the 4 wheel disc alone was worth it to me.

Why don't you go drive the ETH first. . see what you think about it and then just see what happens. Being that you don't live to far from me... let me know if you need help finding a good dealer. I know of a couple in which are pretty good (for buying vehicles. . there is only 2 dealers that I will let work on my vehicle).

I figured I could find some guy who would be really impressed with the truck and pay me a good chunk of change for it. Forget trading it in... I wouldn't get anything for the truck.

I'm going to go to the local Dodge dealer today or tomorrow and drive an ETH with a 6-spd and see what I think. I'll see what they'll give me for trade so I can laugh.

Scooby- Home prices are high, but they are set to go higher. My friends build a nice house 3 years ago for $130k and just refinanced it for $250k. It is kinda like these trucks... take a hit at first, but it pays you back over the long run.

Get what you want! Have a good mechanic look over any used trucks to make sure it was cared for well. I also ask sellers for any maintenance logs/schedules they did to the truck. If they even have a log of maintenance, it's a good sign! I'm sure TDR members can come up with a list of things to check on a used truck.

If you're still NOT planning on towing, you'll be much happier with the 2500, SDR. I agree, 4-disk brakes are the bomb!

Good Luck,
Pat

Mark,

Perhaps you might consider investing in some upgrades to your dually instead of a new truck. Personally, I prefer to customize my truck, making it more fun to drive and forget about buying a new one. I'll bet if you were properly valved, you wouldn't be considering buying a new one! #ad

I only let Johnsons Auto Plaza and Castle Rock Dodge work on my trucks. Only because I am friends with the service managers at Johnsons, and my buddy is good friends with the service manager at Castle Rock.

It seems I'll be in the minority opinion here, but it sounds to me like you have a great truck already. Unless you get fantastic resale on your truck, I'd have to say hold tight. Most folks lose money when they trade; and the biggest plus in my mind for owning the Cummins in the first place is that it should remain reliable for years to come. Also, it will be a fair amount of work just getting the gauges and other options on the new rig the way you like them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've decided to keep the truck unless some person gives me the right price for it. It has been way underused so I'm counting on it lasting for a bit.

It still doesn't run as well as my 12V does...
