06 3500 6-speed 123000 miles K&N breather engine is 100% STOCK... . Would love to hear how this transmission is holdin out for some of ya'll out there. Flywheel went out at 65000 ... went with South bends' package ,flywheel,clutch and hydaulics... . clutch broke in 17000 miles... fine people at SB replaced it on them... . now its sittin at the shop with bearings out on the input shaft. None of this seems that bad to me,I pull extremely hard with this rig. But I checked on prices for another transmission and they tell me its 3500-5500 on this 6-speed and 3500 on an automatic. But when they sell you the truck the auto is a 1000+ dollar upgrade. Have other people here doing the same thing as me with the auto and have had a lot less trouble... primarily minor electrical stuff with theirs. Just trying to figure out how I could possibly make somebody believe that it makes sense financially to by a 6-speed when they cost so darn much more to operate. Personally I dont like any auto but I may be changing my mind soon.
 
If you are breaking the G56 forget the auto. It won't last any better.



We can fix all the problems in the body of the trans but the OD is simply not heavy enough to take sustained heavy towing. The trans will hold together but it will eat the planetary out of OD with big loads due to the stress and heat. Unless you want to run in drive all the time there is no solution but replace it every 50k or so.



How often do you change oil ? Have you tried a temp gauage to find out if heat is a problem? If that is the case, a bigger trans or truck is about the only solution. :)

3 other drivers doin the same thing thing I am,haulin storage sheds and they are havin better luck than me so far. If there is a weak spot these sheds usualyy find it. Hopefully mine is good for a while now. Just dont understand the auto bein so much cheaper to replace. If this thing is worth so much more it oughta last a while yet.
