2000 3500 4x4 6 speed... 1st one self destructed while towing around 4500lbs, now have a remanufatured still under warrenty. It was good for about 50 miles, but now is making a ton of noise and trying to engage 4H on its own. Its at my mechanic's now, but he is kinda out of ideas. Is there a linkage adjustment on them? Or any kind of adjustment that needs to be made? I just don't want to pay shipping on this beast back to where ever it came from and then to ship another one out. Please help me guys. Thanks, JOE

If I remember correctly didn't the first one seem to go dry and that was the cause of self destruction? When the first one went did it lock up or what? If it did could something have gotten bent out of whack?

Well the issue with the first one goes as follows...

my father was towing a friend's 22' boat from Michigan back home to NY, say 700 miles. Now we hadn't had the truck very long, and he's not the most mechanically/driving inclined, so the 6 speed, Gear Vendor, and towing a boat was a bit much i guess. I had made sure to tell him not to use the Gear vendor anytime when towing, but he didn't listen. He towed around 70mph in 6th over, along with the 3. 55s that adds up to a whopping 1500rpms... ok for empty, but not for loaded. So anyways, I strongly believe that's what cooked the first one. Too much torque and not enough engine speed. We sold the gear vendor so that won't be an issue anymore, but what could have been damaged? Thanks, Joe

anybody now... feel free to chime in! Come on, I know you guys can at least give me an idea whats going wrong here. Thanks, Joe

What did you do with the drive shaft after removing the GV Unit, lengthen back to stock or replace with new OEM ? Could it be out of balance, out of true, a little too long or too short ?
