fuel pressure...not

Tuffram, as another option for dispensing that I use is a Eagle brand 5 gallon safety fuel can from Lowes that has a yellow funnel built on to it with a spring loaded handle - cap. The end of the funnel fits perfect into the 16 ounce plastic Nalgene bottles with the blue caps. They actually hold about 18 ounces when plum full, so I put half a bottle in per tank which is usually around 24 - 25 gallons. I just cover the funnel with a grocery bag and a rubberband to keep out the dust. Been working good for me for several months anyhow!

As to benefits of the stuff - I can't say that I've noticed any mileage gains, but the truck has been noticeably quieter throughout the winter. Especially at startup in the metal shed! Will purchase again.

The Latest Statistics????

Any comments or observations on the fuel additive since using it? I am about ready to order a pail for myself.

The stuff is working for me... ... ... . I spend about $500. 00 on fuel a month. Last year I bought $5500. 00 worth of fuel..... I am on my first pail of Amalgamted. I split it with a friend at work. I was previously getting 12-13mpg pulling my 40' gooseneck... ... . Well since using the amalgamated I am between 13-14mpg. My buddy has an FL70 with an 8. 3 Cummins and so far has seen no change in mpg. He is going to change his fuel filter and see what that does for him. He also has a 93' 3/4 CTD Auto, and has seen an improvement in it. Hope this helps... .

Update on shelf life

Way back last July I posted early in the thread about the shelf life of this stuff after a conversation with Gary. He said it's basically indefinitely, other than an little separation of some of the components. Nothing that a little shaking won't take care of.

I pump mine into 16oz plastic bottles for easier use. Lately I've noticed that after they sit for several weeks some of the solids settle out. However, shaking the bottle a bit will mix it up just fine.

So, a word to the wise, whether you've got it sitting in smaller containers, or still in the original bucket, make sure you shake it up good before refilling your smaller containers or putting in your tank. It does separate.

Jason,

About the only thing I've noticed is a little smoother and perhaps just a scoche quieter running engine. I've never really noticed any significant mileage improvement. Much of that may be due to the various performance improvements I've added over time and the inability to keep my foot out of it!

I sort of consider the additive as a regular preventative maintanence thing. I should quit using it for a while and see what my mileage does.

FWIW, for a few tankfuls, I added Amsoil's cetane booster last fall (a friend is a dealer). Even with that, I didn't see much of mileage gain. But I do think there was a performance gain, according to the seat-'o-the-pants meter.

I have done the done same thing as you... ... . With the amsoil I didi notice an improvement... ..... and I also noticed an improvement with the amalgamated. pulling my 40' gooseneck i was averging between 12-13..... with the amalgamated i am at about 13-14.....

The last post to this thread was back in April. This should have given everyone who has been using this additive an opportunity to make a good evaluation of the product. Would like to get feedback: good, bad, the ugly????? ;)

I did find the perfect pump for the 5 gallon pail at Tractor Supply Company for $26. 98. They are made by Great Plains Industries. (GPI)

Would like to know how folk think the Amagamated fuel additive compares to the others on the market they have tried. I have been mixing John Deere Summer Formula and Howes. Thanks for any replies. :)

Things I noticed using Amalgamated:

1. ) Engine seems a little quieter.

2. ) Exhaust smokes much less

3. ) Increased throttle response

We have really crappy fuel in the Northeast so I can notice a marked difference when it's in the tank.

Someone that gets 50+ Cetane fuel might not notice as much of an improvement.

I would buy another keg when this one is gone if I can.

solids seperating from Amalgamated

Does the manufacture have any info on the size of the SOLIDS. are the fuel filters capable of micronic particle removal. Not getting the full plate if your fuel filter will seperate the solids out . Just thinking out loud:confused:

That is a lot less than the Power Service recommended mixing proportions. I am using a mix of John Deere Summer Formula and Howes Diesel Treat currently.

Guess this is the last time I will try to revive this thread. Would appreciate as many evaluations/opinions as possibe. Thanks again for the reply HemiDart. I am starting to run low on additive and wanted to buy a pale of something. Or maybe I'll just keep any eye out at Wally World. Thanks for any more replies! Oo.

I am impressed

With out a doudt it really cuts the white smoke I know have with the lower compression (thicker headgasket). Not sure if I can give all the credit to the additive but I ran it all the way to Muncie and back and did 21. 5 mpg running 70. This is at least a full 1. 5 mpg increase (keeping track for over 200K miles). I recently changed fuel plates, increased timing (alot) and changed the headgasket.

I have ran Stanadyne everywinter to keep from running any blend or #1. While it had kept running (no gelling) I cant say I noticed and better mpg, power or less smoke.

With this stuff, I know it cuts smoke including black (I get pretty smoky if I want to), I has to help mpg some, and truck gives me the impression it runs better with it then without. At least more noticeable then with the Stanadyne. I never ran the Stanadyne year round. I am now running this yearround.

Are people still using this additive. It sounds like a really good idea to run in our pre 2007 trucks. Does anyone know if it adds stability to long term diesel storage? I store about 750 gallons of both off road and on road and per year and would like to use this if it helps our engines and adds fuel storage longevity. TIA

I still use it as I have been for several years. I think it helps with stabilization but I have to admit that I dont know. I dont have a tank at the house and the fuel in the truck never seems to last more than a few days before it is gone:rolleyes:

The price from just a few weeks ago was $78 for the 5gal pail and $50 for shipping. When I first bought it if I recall it was $90. 00 shipped to my door. Which means it has gone up $38. 00 in the past 4 years.

If you want to go big a 55 gal drum is $823 +198 shipping. We buy it here where I work as well.
