TDR Issue 49- Blank Pages???

The powers that be,

Ever thought about adding the Amber Alert ticker to the website. A lot of us spend a whole bunch of time on the road and Amber Alert has proven very effective at locating abducted children on the move. The banner doesn't take much space, is free, and a good way to help those who can't help themselves. you can view details here

anybody else want to weigh in

To make this easier to visualize click on the link in my sig and you will see how the ticker looks on a website. I can't imagine anyone would object to this other than that it would take up a bit of space on the site. I'm sure our web team could find a way to make it work.

Moderators please pass this on to the appropriate people who make these kind of decisions. thanks for the support guys!

I've forwarded this to Robin for consideration. She's had a very busy last couple of weeks (daughter graduated last week and got in a car wreck yesterday that totalled her car) so we haven't been able to chat much. I'm going to be out of town next week so we probably won't get a chance to talk about it for a couple weeks.

More Input

Thank you for the sample, sardoghauler. How would we be made aware of a missing individual? Is there a service that feeds that data to us? I agree it is a very worthwhile thing for us to do, but I'm not sure how the data is received/edited/updated. Please advise.

LOL, Last night I got pretty well flamed up about this not appearing to be taken serious. Today at 2:55pm, I do a search, find the thread, and see Robin's post from 2:45! Thank goodness for me waiting to cool off and find the right words. I should have known... . Thank you Robin!!

I've wanted to post about this since I first saw it but I've held back - my only concern would be that the site would get "cluttered" by stuff like this. I'm sure they are other services/alerts such as this and if we include this one, wouldn't we have to include all of them to be fair?

Granted, it would be a nice idea, but there are drawbacks too. But I don't even know what the thing looks like. It may not even take up much space for all I know.

Don't mean to step on anyone's toes - I'm just trying to look at both sides here.

Feedback?

All right. I'm open to the idea. Steve has looked into the programming. Some of you strongly want this. Others have concerns about if this, why not others?

Feedback from more users?

Is there an alternative way to accomplish this without creating problems?

Anyone know how other websites handle it?

I respect that it would be a drag to junk up the site. However I do think that doing what we can to help save innocent children should be a top priority for Americans and Canadians. Yeah I am biased, I have 2 young daughters. I installed the desktop ticker today. I would rather it was dormant unless an alert actually appears, but better than not having it I suppose.

I also feel strong about how well this *could* possibly help. We (as in) TDR individuals are doing our part to help innocent children.

I can also see how it may entitle the website to get drenched with NON-diesel activities.

What weighs stronger on your mind, a missing child ??? Or a possibility of cluttering the site ???

Answer is clear, i'll vote all day long for the alert.

Thanks

Curtis

I think this would be a good idea. Can the programming be tweaked to come up when there is only an amber alert or is it popping up all the time. If it comes up all the time you would eventually stop paying attention. But with all the members and guest that we have online in a days time this could really work here.

Also having a small girl 4 years old, I would want all people to know she is missing. We are a huge group, and with all the people we know it would be great to know we got a few kids back before anything bad happened. I say we go for it.

I agree, Let's do it... . 20,000 people on this site... that can make a huge difference in finding that child.

I do see the downside of if it was used for anything Other than the Amber Alert, I would be against it. Helping people is great, ads can stay in my newspaper.
