Attention: TDR Forum Junkies Okay this may sound like a visit to the twilight zone. . but here goes.
My truck gets wrecked... lotso front end damage. Truck gets fixed. . new fenders hood and engine compartment wiring.
Get truck home all is well. Ambient air temp senser displays an "OC" (assuming open circuit) error code. Sure enough no sensor install. Was pitched during the rebuild. Get new sensor. . find wires and plug 'her in. Temp works... great.
Go to drive truck next day. In auto... truck starts in THIRD GEAR. If I manually shift it will start in second (even if first is selected) and only shift to third (overdrive + lockup are dead).
TDR forum searches start me looking for broken transmission temp sensors.
QUESTION 1 FOR THE BUDROS: WHERE IS MY '97 AUTO transmission TEMP SENDOR?
Now here's where it gets wierd. I unplug the ambient air temp sensor... truck runs great... all gears back... mystery switch working great ... . ops normal... Same old error code on my overhead console "OC".
I may be on to something I think... so I plug the ambient air temp sensor back in again. Now truck works great? HUH?
QUESTION 2 FOR THE BUDROS: DOES OUR AMBIENT AIR TEMP SENSOR (THE LITTLE BLACK ONE MOUNTED TO THE DRIVERS SIDE RADIATOR SUPP) SEND ANY INFO THE PCM?
QUESTION 3... . : ANYONE KNOW WHAT UNIVERSE MY TRUCK VISITED WHILE IT WAS "AWAY"?
misc info. Outside air temp 65 deg F. transmission temp warmed up all the way to 180 deg while I was trouble shooting the funny shifting/no TC lockup . . ergo... the cold weather warm up thing wasn't the issue... . I think.
Fire away space travelers... . The was a wierd one... . abeit with a happy ending so far.
