My new 2005 keeps coming up with the ambiant battery temp code. My dealer clears it but says there is no tsb on this even though many owners are coming in with this warning. Anyone heard of a solution for this as it is a pain to go to the dealer every time this comes up.

I get it often as well, but only when wet out and the truck has been sitting for awhile. I just clear the code and forget about it.

There is a battery temp sensor under the driver's side tray. When I put in Optiimas I made sure one of the cells sat directly on the sensor. I used the 800 amp batteries so there woulldn't be a honeycomb spacer under the battery to upset the sensor. I don't know if this has any relevance to your problem, but offer the info in case it helps anyone.

Are you clearing the code yourself? If so how is that done.

I have an Auto xray unit so I clear the code myself. Some code readers can clear as well and are relatively inexpensive. Another way is to disconnect the batteries and clear the whole PCM. The computer will relearn your driving patterns within 50 miles.

Do you get the code (p0514) only when plugged in? Do you have a battery blanket? Do you have any mods to the front of the truck that might affect air flow? Just wondering why the code might set. It should only set if the battery temp does not change over time.

No per my local dealer in Carson City this has been a common problem on 3rd gen trucks. They state that Dodge is aware of this and is working on a flash to fix it. Yea just like they are going to come up with a fix for the door seals ripping. As has been said before I sure do love the motor but they need to work on the shell.

Boy, if I had a nickle for every time I heard Dodge is aware of it and is working on a cure, well, I might just be able to afford that block heater cord DC "forgot" to include with my $40k truck.

I get the code about twice a month. I ignore it and it goes away after a day or so.

Dealer checked it and hit the sensor with a hammer or jiggled a wire or something but it still does it.

Big deal.

I hardly notice it because the truck is vibrating so badly at 70 MPH I can't see it.

edgenman55,

I own a 2004. 5 and just had the p-0514 code on my rig and will get it checked on the fifth at dealership along with seals and reflash will let all know friday

Excuse my ignorance here but just what in the heck does this sensor even exist for? What possible reason might there be to monitor the temperature of the battery? I wonder if the sensor can be replaced with something (a resistor of the proper ohm rating to fool the computer in to thinking all is well at all times) to permenantly "disable" it?

The sensor is there to determine the battery temp, and adjust the charging current based on temp.

I didn't realize that this was necessary! Haven't batteries been sucessfully kept charged for a loooooooooooong time in vehicles? Long before a "battery temp" sensor! I'm not against it... but if it's causing this many headaches wouldn't it make sense to just eliminate it somehow?
