I believe that I saw someone make mention of the idea that the Dodge and GM axles use the same center section from American Axle ? Is this true ? If so, the idea of swapping in a G80 Eaton locker into my soon-to-be-new 325/600 dually becomes VERY inviting. Especially considering some of the negative feedback on the LSD's in the Dodge's. Just curious if this is fact or fiction ???

I am not really sure where some of these guys have issues with the limited slip. Mine has performed flawless since the day I drove it off the lot. It feels nice and tight in turns and actually worked nicely when plowing snow. In 6-8 inches I typically can push in two wheel drive if the ground id fairly level

My LS has been great, one difference in the GM 11. 5" rear end is it has a drain plug in the bottom, nice touch wish the Dodge had it.

Call up Randy's Ring and Pinion 1-800-292-1031. There was an article in 4 Wheeler Mag about the Dana 80 vs AAM 11. 5. Randy's did the comparison on the GM 11. 5 and the Dodge 11. 5 also. I think they are the same if I remember right.

I have had no issues at all with my AA LS and I have used it plenty for 2 New England winters. Far better than any of the Dana's that I've had in the past.

I must say after many jeeps and my buddy's 98 2500 my LS performs when asked and maybe a little when not.

thought it would be junk like all the rest but it pretty ggod. NOW THE AXLE ON THE OTHER HAND. I have it straight from the dealler mechanics that the pinnion bearing on ALL AAM'S in the 2500 and 3500's have noise. just a design flaw. Hope they get that Ironed out huh?? So if you hear noise B4 70,000 bettter get it in. Thank god dodge has a 7/70,000 power train warentee.

I like my AS, they don't use limited slips in 03+, THEY ARE CALLED ANTI SPIN, I know iam probably being anal but some of the guys don't know the difference and we can help them by calling the rear by its build sheet name.

I haven't heard complaints from Duramax owners about the AAM 11. 5" making noise, but this is common on the Rams. The Duramax has a harmonic dampener on the pinion yoke. I wonder if this would help the Rams. Anyone know if the Duramax and Rams use the same rear u-joint?

What issue? If it's still in stores I'd like to go buy one...

I just checked my invoice and by golly they are called Anti-Spin;) , maybe that's why they work so well:D .

I did some checking ... and made some phone calls ... .

The AAM 11. 5" in the Dodge is slightly different than the GM. This is right from Eaton. Unfortunately, the G80 locker will not work in our Dodges... ... . bummer.

I thought I saw in the forums that the electric locker from Eaton would work in the front axle and that is the same as the Chevy. I think it was referened from Randy' Ring and Pinion.

My DSA "Anti-Spin" works flawlessly, with no hopping or binding on cornering, and on a dirt road, accelerating in 3rd or 4th leaves 4 nice tracks in the rear view mirror...

I have an 03 Cummins HO with the Anti-Spin diff... . and I have had some problems with mine. I was on a snowmobile trip up north in March and I parked along a side of a road, one wheel on pavement and one on snow. When I went to move my truck the wheel in the snow just kept spinning, while the wheel on DRY pavement just sat there! Luckily for me I have 4X4, or I would have been stuck! When I got home from my trip I brought it in to the dealership to have it looked at. They told me everything is O. K. ! Now I ask you, how can that be O. K. ? When I ordered my truck, I paid for an Anti-Spin Diff. So what the hell is going on here? I double checked my build sheet and sure enough, it is on there. Any insight to my problem?

Turbo kidd... it is an "anit-spin" which is essentially the same thing as a limited slip. The older style 'trac-locks' are clutch driven... the AAM 'anti-spin's are gear driven.

With that said... this is NOT a locker... it is NOT supposed to lock up under those conditions. If you have enough leverage on one tire. . and the other is more "free" such as yours was in the snow... 99% of the limited slips (or anti-spins) will act as an open differential... yes some LS's are VERY tight and are much harder to get them to spin only one tire... BUT again yours did exactly as it should.

Thanks for clearing that up for me! That is basically what I was told by the dealer, however for some reason I did not believe them. Thanks again for the feedback!

C Clips?

Is American Axle using the old GM design with the infamous C clips that retain the axle ends inside the diff?
