Need a NW BOMBer to do a "hit"

to all my gearhead buddies

Just watched "The Patriot" Good movie, very sad. Makes me want to review the Revolution. You guys know of any good books on the era?

Just to ruin it, we win the war! I bet some people had no clue about what war it was, they just like Mel Gibson.

Gene, the History Channel had a series a couple of weeks ago called Our Founding Fathers,it was very good as far as the history of the Revolution,it must have been 8 hrs long total. It'll probibly come back round again.

"Rabble in Arms" and "Arundel" , both books by Kenneth Roberts, are two favorites... they're written as novels but are historically accurate... If I think of anymore, I'll come back & edit this post, add them to the list.

It really is amazing that our country even exists! Those rag-tag, poorly armed "rebels" who became our founding fathers were up against incredible odds. Heck, a lot of them didn't even have shoes!
One of my ancestors was a surgeon in General Washington's army. My folks have been researching our family tree for many years. They have read quite a few books on the revolutionary war in their search for any scrap of information they could find about this particular ancestor.
One story that they had read told about a "red coat" who was a spy for General Washington. Only a select few knew who he really was. He would allow the rebels to capture him, and after someone was able to figure out who he was and get whatever information he had to General Washington, he always managed to "escape". Like I said, only a select few knew that he was a spy. The rest of the colonists despised him, they even burned down his house.
I'm sure there are many, many amazing stories of bravery and courage that would make for great movies and books.
I haven't seen "The Patriot", in fact, I hadn't heard about it until I read this post. Like you said, Gene, probably most people have no idea what the war in the movie is about. It really is sad how most people have such poor knowledge of our history, but yet they can rattle off all kinds of details about "The Simpsons", Madonna's wedding, or whatever.

I have limited edition leather bound copies of Thomas Jefferson, "Writings" (everything he EVER wrote, including letters)
and "The Federalist Papers" (James Madison)
Both can be obtained from the NRA Library, I assume, I bought them by mail.
I also recommend "Cold Mountain" by Charles Frazier, it's still easy to find a copy in bookstores. It's about the War Between the States (don't call it the Civil War to my face) and is one of the most moving, profound, deep, well written books I've ever read. It's powerful, the author has a mastery of the language ! I know it's not about the Revolutionary War, sorry, I'll keep searching my memory...
