I cleaned my AFE PG7 air filter.

How many ounces of oil should be sprayed into the filter?

I hate guessing how much to put in. It always seams like its either too much or not enough.

I may contact AFE if nobody knows.

as far as i understand the pro guard 7 is used dry. i looked and looked but found no firm print saying" oil air filter after washing" i run mine dry. :)

The cleaning kit that I got from AFE. Has a oil bottle in it.

I think running a dry filter is not good thing to do?

The instructions I got with my PG7 don't say a specific amount of oil. It just says to to either spray a light coat with the aerosol can. Using the squeeze bottle it says to apply a small amount of oil to the top and bottom of each pleat stopping about 1/2"-3/4" from each edge. You only do this to one side of the filter. Within 20 minutes the oil should soak threw the filter and to touch up any spots that aren't covered.

It also says you are to never use it dry and not to over oil it.

Bought a spare filter when I installed the kit & clean & oil the dirty one & place in plastic bag so that it is ready when needed. How much oil is a real problem as I only get 3 applications from the aerosol can. Check the intake pipe & no oily residue is evident so don't worry about it as I am on lots of dusty roads. For sure do not run with a dry filter or you will do serious damage

*NEVER use an aFe filter without oil. The oil is required to capture the

finer dirt particles.

*DO NOT over oil the filter media as it not only wastes oil, it can

potentially cause damage to sensors in the air intake stream.

*NEVER use motor oil, transmission fluid, diesel fuel, WD 40, etc. in

place of aFe oil.

From the above link.

i wonder what that afe oil is (or what is air filter oil??) When I ran out of the air filter oil, I always just used some heavy oil that I happened to have on hand. Never hurt anything that I know about. . .

I just pulled my TT and the turbo is as clean as the day I pulled the silencer ring out. I installed a PG-7 filter a few months ago, and it came pre-oiled. I also put the outer cover on and it has a slight oil spot here and there, where the oil came from the filter. I also have a foam sponge type filter for my motorcycle and they sell filter oil, which is a lot thicker than most motor oils I have seen, in addition it is kind of tacky, which leads me to believe it has something added to pick up dirt in the filter. Afe oil must be the same consistency to work in the same fashion. I don't think regular oil would work in this case.

Hi Jeff,

There is 2. 45 oz on the filter for the ProGuard 7 1995 Dodge Cummins. It's best

to make sure you don't over oil the filter, so basically less is better. One

coat over the top pleats should be enough. If you feel you've over oiled the

filter then you can wash it again and just reapply with less oil.

If you have any other questions feel free to call or email at any time.
