Read John Martins article on oils in TDR issue 58. Actually Robert Patton did the

article with info from Martin. Amsoil Prem. Syn. CJ-4 was among the bottom

of the list. You can get Valvoline Premium Blue Classic CI-4+ for less than half the

price and he rated it at the top.

I am using synthetic 15W40 Royal Purple because it is available with the CI + additive formulation. I am of the understanding that the CI + formulation is superior to CJ, at least for pre 07. 5 models. Although I don't know how the cost compares to Amsoil 15W40.

There is no other choice. I do have to admit, though, I use the Amsoil 10w-40 that is CI-4 because that is what I use in my tractor and all my lawn equipment (keeps down inventory). It does just as good.

I used to run Valvoline (cummins), good oil, but have been using amsoil for a couple of years now and oil samples are awesome, emissions are great, and instantley saw 3+ mpg better (city and highway). Now all my vehicles run amsoil products. I can't say enough!!!

I used amsoil 15-40 marine/diesel and my 01 used about a quart for every 6000 mi..... switched to amsoil premium 15-40 and the verdict is still out... by the way... rotella was used the previous 178k and it didnt use any... wtf? we will see how the amsoil premium does...

Run it with a fs2500 bypass and got 39,000 on oil & still good oil test.

Shell rotella 15-40 -good price change oil & filter every 5000 mi. 79000 miles on truck no consumption so far no problems. Knock on wood
