Amsoil 5w30 HDD Oil

I just changed the oil on my '05 to Amsoil's 5w30 HDD oil. Previously I was running M1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 which performed very well. In fact, when I pulled the Geno's magnetic drain plug with 10K miles on the oil, there was no residue on the magnet at all.



I decided to give the Amsoil a try as another CTD'er I met claims he's getting an additional 1. 5 mpg with it. The truck seems to run fine with it so far. In fact, it seems to take longer to reach operating temp with the Amsoil.



I'm also running Amsoil 75w110 in the pumpkins.



Just wondering who else here is using (or has used) the 5w30 HDD Amsoil and what your experience has been with it.

I ran it for a little while. Analysis always came back OK but IIRC the wear metals were slightly hgher than with 15w-40. That might be because I had 16K on the oil when I usually change at 10K.

Somehow I never managed to run it in the winter which is when I'd really like to try it.

I've used it for several years in my '03 HO with good results. There probably is a fuel economy improvement, but I never took the time to measure it. The engine definitely takes longer to warm up though, so that should be some fuel savings right there.

I ran it in my '01 for 20,000 miles and iron count went up a lot on my oil samples. At the end of 20k miles (without bypass filter) iron count was 88 whereas the 15w40 was usually in the 40s after 20k miles on the oil. They went back down when I switched back to Amsoil 15w40. When I was running the 5w30 though temps were over 100 frequently up to 110 that summer . . . it would've been better to run it in winter.
