Hmmmm. .
Ok,You have my interest now.
How much more bulletproof can you get other than a Dana rear??. The Dana rear has long been standout for being nearly indestructable(except when Sled Puller is a drivin,LOL)and has been widely used in many applications that have put more power down to the ground than our trucks do. I will not believe that a GM 14bolt will out last the Dana if they are built the same way.
Here you say you are going to the Dana 60 from a Ford for the front and a GM 14 bolt for the rear and say the rear will be completely rebuilt and complain of your Dana not handling the job,was it rebuilt to withstand the intentions you put it thru??. Just curious myself. Lockers are available as are aftermarket axles for the Dana 80 so why make the switch to the GM 14bolt,cost prohibitive for your wallet??.
I'll have to answer the question you asked Gene about the weakpoint like this, your weakpoint will be when you install the GM rear to begin with. Your truck, your choice as we all know, but,I'd do a little more research before making a switch like that. One last thing,to achieve what your looking to do with the truck(I would guess and say sled pull)and make a ratio change for more wheel speed to accomadate the taller tires, why not do some research on tire sizes and see how much change only going to a 3. 73 over your 3. 55's make. There are a couple of ways to make a gear change for wheel speed to do what you want, but, with what you want to do time is not of the essence and you will have to make a choice early and live with it(at the track). Depending on track conditions and surfaces a taller tire will be more apt to have the torque pull the sled rather than wheel speed and you can the Sled Pullin king what happens when torque does the work... ... .....
