amsoil--additive for Posi rear end

Guys, Was wondering how much and what kind

kind of additive need to add to Posi

rear-end when I change to Amsoil.

Looking to do the job soon and know

you guys have done this already?!?

When I changed mine to 75W90 I did not add any additive and have not needed any. Some people have to and some don't. When I changed it in my 95 I bought the Mopar additive and added it. I might not of needed it but I'll never know cause I put it in when I changed it. But I had a 95,98 ,2000 and son has a 99 and we have not added any additive to them. So try it with out you might not need it. I'm sure you'll get a few comments on this.

I didn't add any to mine.

I changed to Amsoil 75W-90 in both differentials about a month ago, did NOT add any friction modifier to my LSD rear differential. I went hunting last weekend out in the Mojave desert, drove over a lot of nasty dirt and rock roads, 4 wheeled the heck out of the truck, never had any problems. Have about 2000 highway miles on the truck with the Amsoil in it, no chatter problems at all.

The Posi's are supposed to require about 6% to 8% additive. Amsoil is supposed to contain/equivelant of 5%. -- At least this is the feedback I got -- So you can see some dont need to add any other need a small amount.



1. Do the fluid change

2. Do the tight figure 8 pattern in the parking lot

3. Test drive. If you feel its too grabby, add Mopar Friction Modifier in 2oz increments.

4. Repeat figure 8 and 2oz increments as needed



Remember Maghytec's hold more, so the amount needed to bring 5% up to 8%, for example, will vary. And each diff will vary. Dont just add x amount because thats what some else did.

I fall into the "didn't have to" category. Went to Amsoil 75/90 when I put on the Mag-Hytek rear cover. That was 8K ago... so far no problem.

I put in Amsoil 75w-140 and did not have to add any modifier. I did buy some in case from NAPA I think it was from Sta-lube. Since I did not need use it don't know how it worked. Been in 3 weeks have not towed yet but does not seem grabby so in a few more if it still seems okay will return friction modifier to NAPA for refund. Hope that helps just see waht yours needs.

I fall into the Amsoil 75w90 front and rear category and did not require any friction modifier. Did the figure 8 turns and have not had any problems. That was 4K miles ago.

Amsoil 75w-90 Front and Rear... . no modifier added and no figure eights even needed. So far so good, that was three or four thousand miles ago.

Well just so you get one the other way, I did add 2oz to mine.



My comment above is learn what your posi needs. Dont add 2oz just because I did. Dont do whats right for our posi, do what right for yours.

After changing to Amsoil 75-140 had to add about 3 oz of modifier. It took several months before the chatter started. Was bad when I added 600 lbs of tounge weight during left turns.

I cahnged my Vette over to Amsoil racing gear lube and eliminated the chronic chattering problems I previously had no matter how many bottles of posi additive I used! Any over-100mph runs always forced me to do some figure eights when I got home in order to relube the clutches. Apparently posi additive slings out of the clutch pack at high speed. With Amsoil regular gear lube I had the same problem, but with Amsoil racing gear lube, the problem is gone!

I just installed the Mag-Hytec and Amsoil 75W-140 in mine last night. Did a bunch of figure 8's and did not detect any chatter. I guess I'll have to listen for it in the future if it can show up later.



I cut the label off from one of the Amsoil gear lube bottles, and attached it to the anti-sway bar hehind the diff cover so that anyone doing a lubrication service can see it, and know not to mix it with anything else. I may also attach a tag to the Mag-Hytec dipstick with a notice to "See Owner". Attached is a pic.
