If anyone out there is using an Amsoil AE filter I'd like to know how they compare to the K&N filter in the stock intake box. I'm especially interested in which provides better air flow. At my last oil analysis I had an elevated level of silicates and assume that is due to sucking in dust/dirt through or around my K&N filter. There are no leaks elsewhere in the intake system and I feel that the K&N was well sealed around the edges. I'm concerned about max airflow, but want to use something in the stock air box that also provides good filtration. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I think the EaA is an excellent choice. The K&N is nothing more than a glorified rock guard as your UOA confirms. The EaA is a good filter and flows well. I just put one in the '06 and in the wife's Liberty. I'm going to do some UOA to comfirm effectiveness, but I don't expect any problems.

I had the K&N filter in my stock box. I switched the the EaaU4510. AMSOILS answer to the BHAF. My silicate count dropped. Now I know that my filter is bigger than the EAA106 (part Number for 1995 Ram) it uses the same nano-fiber filter media. The one thing I like with the nano-fiber over the K&N is cleaning. All you need is shop air and a shop vac to clean it. Do it once a year or every 25,000 miles and you are good to go. -Jason

JOdell, I see you are an Amsoil dealer. Has Amsoil published any independent testing results comparing the air flow and partical retention of their product with that of other brands of air filters? If so, where can I find it. I've searched their website and cannot seem to locate anything.

Here is a link to a study. I couldn't find out if it was "independent" or not. THE AMSOIL EAA106 I hope this helps answer any questions you may have. -Jason

Used?

I still have a slightly used Amsoil filter if you want? I had good filtration with it, but went to #5 plate and restriction with it and stock airbox went through the roof. Removed stock, and made a custom setup with a big AFE. The Amsoil filter gave much better filtration in the stock setup though. PM me if you want it. I also have a slightly used K@N...
