where's the proof?

Does anybody have copies or links to any standarized air filter tests for the various filters being discussed? Sure would like to see some proof of these claims... .

I've used both in my 98. 5. The only thing I've noticed is that the K&N is slightly louder than the Amsoil filter.

As far as the unscientific viewpoints... . It would appear to me that the Amsoil filter would provide better filtration than the K&N. However in all fairness. . I've had a number of K&N's on different vehicles..... without an issue.

Probably the only thing I don't like about the Amsoil unit is the color. Most filters are light in color... . and therefore allow you to visually see if the unit requires early maintanace. Whereas the Amsoil unit is black...

In either case... . My K&N is resting inside the Amsoil cardboard box. But I wouldn't be afraid to run either unit.

It is my belief that the K&N might be better suited for daily street driven applications rather than the weekend off-road dust boundings.

I've used both filters as well ... . I believe the K&N may flow slightly more air, but I don't think you can beat one inch of oiled foam in terms of filtration efficiency. I have one of the small Amsoil "POD" air filters on my lawn tractor. The outside of this thing gets completely filty with dirt, grass, bugs, etc, but the inside is perfectly clean when I take it off the carb.

I think that the K&N is a very well made product who's main purpose is increased airflow, while essentially matching the filtration of a paper filter. When viewed in this context is does exactly what it's designed to do.
