OK, I was probably wrong to do it. I'll get crucified for suggesting it. But when I was using mine, I always cleaned it with plain, 'ol... GASOLINE!



Worked good, too! But re-oiling was still a pain. Probably get flamed again for it, but if I was still using it, I'd reoil it using... K&N oil in a spray can!! Maybe I could figure out a way to spray on the Amsoil oil. But massaging it into the filter in a plastic bag was a pain. That was one reason I switch to the BHAF, then eventually to the aFe.

Years ago, Amsoil did use a spray can but it went away when the ozones were being addressed. They then went to a bottle, and now they have gone back to a spray can. Must have a better propellent that is evironment friendly. Gasolene will make the foam expand and is more dangerous, so it has been advised not to be used. I do need to ask why did you use a plastic bag, did you not want to get your hands dirty?

It just seemed to me at the time to be the best way to distribute the oil through the filter. I put it in a big ziplock, poured in the oil, then used a piece of PVC as sort of a rolling pin to work it through the filter. I then used the PVC to squeeze the excess out the end of the open bag onto a rag.



I'm not sure what the recommended way to do it is. I don't remember instructions coming with mine either. I mean, you have this foam filter with wire mesh embeded in it and a little bottle of oil. How do you evenly spread the oil through the filter without wasting a bunch of it?

When re-oiling, use only a “tack” oil, such as the Amsoil LTF oil. This is special oil, and is fire resistant as well. Apply the oil sparingly back and forth across the foam until you have about 1 inch squares of oil on the foam, then work the oil into the foam with your hands and fingers until the oil is absorbed into the foam. When the oil is absorbed, take a paper towel, and “blot” the excess oil from the it before re-installing in the airbox.
