Amsoil air filter

Just receved my Amsoil Ail Filter (TS106). There are really no instructions to install. Looks like the metal cage goes to the bottom and the Amsoil name is on top and visable when you open the filter box. Is this correct? This is a very tight fitting filter. Does not look like any dust or dirt can get around this filter. I also removed the cowl vent going from the filter box into the fender to let in more air. Does this sound OK. Thanks for any info!

I believe the wire mesh goes up, i. e. towards the turbo. Amsoilman, care to enlighten us?

Wire mesh up, to the turbo side.

And squeeze out any extra oil with a dry towel.

I have mine mounted so you see the metal cage facing up. It seemed to fit better this way. It’s a tight fit when new. Once it has been in for a while the foam will conform to the shape of the air box. I checked mine last night after 2,000 miles. There was a lot of oil running down the inside of the air box. It had been squeezed out buy compressing the foam. I cleaned up the oil and put the filter back in.



I love the sound with the new filter. I’m a little concerned about long-term oil residue building up in the intercooler. So far the intake to the Turbo is very clean (no oil film).

Yes, the wire mesh should face up..

Yup, the wire mesh should face outward, so the

side that says AMSOIL is on the dirty side.

And you will get some filter oil drainage, but

I doubt there is enough to cause problems in

the intercooler. Do take the time to blot out

as much excess oil as you can.



I removed the rubber tube connecting the airbox

to the fender. It appears to be more of a noise

supressing tool than anything else. It could also

reduce the possibility of water injestion into the

airbox, so if you do a lot of 4 wheeling or deep

water crossing, maybe leaving it in is a good

idea. .

On the other hand, if you are

worried that removing it will allow underhood heat to decrease the

power output of the engine, remember that the

turbo compresses the intake air to 19 PSI or more

and that creates a LOT MORE heat. The intercooler

is there to remove that heat buildup. Next time

you pull in for fuel or pop the hood for some

reason, feel the intercooler with your hands on

either side (near the left and right headlights)

and you will notice the passenger side feels quite

warm and the driver side is much cooler.
