This is an observation only. Yesterday I replaced the stock air filter with one from Amsoil - what a difference! First the turbo whine is significantly louder - sounds like music to my ears. Second, the truck seems to respond better both in acceleration and smoothness. I'm not trying to push any brand but this filter is a winner.

I probably shoudn't mention this since I don't have all the facts but Amsoilman2 (Danny) having the same truck as I do, except it is a 3500, had a problem with low power and poor fuel mileage. Cummins did a couple of dyno checks and changed some parts and the truck still had the same problem. Anyway, Danny changed the stock air filter to the Amsoil equivalent and his 'same trip' mileage went from 15 to 19MPG instantly! Seems that his original air filter was over oiled thus restricting the air flow. This could explain the problem that a lot of ETH owners have been having. If it does explain it - it's an inexpensive fix.

Changed my K&N out for a new Amsoil filter. The K&N passed a lot of the ash from our fires onto my turbine blades, and I cannot accept that scenario. Took a trip out into the woods to pick chokecherries today, and the muted sound from the Amsoil filter was not loud, but pleasant. Learned how to install the thing too: forget the hinge tabs on the right side of the air box: push the filter into the box, carefully aligning the foam with the box edges, then place the box cover directly over the filter and push down firmly untill the box cover engages the tabs on the right side of the box; the tabs will hook onto the slots in the box cover; then snap the steel hooks onto the box cover, and it's done.

Today I also changed my stock air filter out for the Amsoil air filter.

WOW!!!! #ad

What a difference. The turbo whine is much more clear and beautiful. #ad
I also have to agree that the power seems to come on a little bit quicker and is smoother. When I bump the cruise control button a notch, it responds faster.

The old filter was not dirty so the changes are not due to a new clean filter. IMHO

Excellent product and alot easier on the pocket book!! I wish I had changed it earlier. Will advise later on MPH changes!

I too just installed my Amsoil air filter this past weekend. Purchased mine at the U. S. Diesel truckin' nationals from an Amsoil dealer. I too agree that this is an excellent air filter if you are looking for a little quicker turbo spool up and little more turbo wine. (OK, OK, A lot more wine) BUt hey, you can't go wrong with that !!!!

I initially ran a brand A filter in my race car and got rid of it because it was an oil dripping sponge that just made a mess everywhere. I then swithed to brand K with unsatisfactory oil analysis results and reverted back to Wix.

I think both products flow more air and have the potential to reduce EGT's and increase pre-turbo intake velocities. The brand K didn't filter all that great and the brand A was just plain messy.

I wish Racor made one of their disposable foam filters for the ETH, but until then, I'm going to stick w/ a Wix or Fleetguard.
