Darren,

Nice clean set up!

Two questions: 1) What is the valve at the oil fill cap?

2) The feed to the filter is tapped into the top of the factory full flow filter? Or do you have an adaptor to the original factory full flow port?

(I guess that's really three questions!)

Thanks,

Eddie

I removed the plug off the top of the full flow filter housing, installed a 90 degree elbow and routed that to the bypass filter. If you look at the picture of the return line to the oil cap you will see a steel plug used on the piece the valve is attached to, that is the plug from the full flow filter housing. As for the valve, that is so I can take a sample for oil analysis.

A couple things I noticed with this bypass filtration system. I have noticed my oil pressure is a little lower than normal. The second thing is I got to find a way to make sure that the valve doesn't inadvertently come open, that would suck to lose my oil that way. I don't know how much they will help or not, but I just ordered some oil filter magnets for the bottom of both filters.

If the valve is tight I dont think it will work open. I have one on my wifes 4runner for sampling, and its always as tight or tighter when I go to open if for a sample. I don't have one on th truck becuaes I just take the oil cap off to get a sample.

Depending on what ECM flash your 01 has the oil psi gauge may not even be real, so I don't know if I would worry about it, as long as your oil level is good.

Thanks! I will be going this route as soon as I can afford it. The oil in my 2004. 5 with the Edge EZ is so black... so fast..... that I am sure that the suspended particles that the full flow filter misses must be harmful.

There isn't really anything you can do to keep the oil from going black as soon as you change it on a 04. 5-07, just the nature of the beast.

You really need better fuel filtration with that EZ, pressure boxes are hard on injectors.

AH64ID,

I just replaced my failed lift pump at 122,440 miles. I put in the FASS Titanium. Hopefully this will help.

Eddie

As long as it has the upgraded filters. If its the old style filters then its worse than stock.

Do both filters have water drains?

P552303 should have a drain too.

For the 1st filter, replace it with a Baldwin BF1275 next filter change.

2nd gen's must have more room between the valve cover and hood, becuase that would destroy my hood liner!
that is why it has that 990 degree elbow attaching it to the oil cap. The way I would like to attach it is have the T fitting feed straight down into the oil cap, but I don't think I have the clearance to do that.

Are you getting any rubbing on the hood liner with it that way? Mine hits and I have a low profile 90* fitting in my oil cap.

Not that I have noticed. One thing I am going to is take a cardboard box, set it on the top of the engine and see how far it gets crushed down. if the height of it is right I will make the changes.

I don't think I would ever bother with one of these.

I don't think I would ever consider one of these,

They seem to be a solution looking for a problem.

Filter theory sais that any particle less than half the diameter of the required size will pass through the system without harm to any part of the system. Carbon particles are very tiny in relation to bearing clearances.

My truck has 158,000+ miles on it, and with oil changes every 12k to 15K miles runs perfectly.

Don't waste toilet paper.
