Adding Ball Valve to Bypass Oil Filtration System?

Big thanks to New Era Diesel Performance

Hey guys, finally got my amsoil bypass installed :) Some were curious about mounting and I'll take a photo. I mounted mine off of the passenger side battery with a custom fabbed bracket. Fits nicely and keeps everything clean and accessible for samples and such. What intervals are you guys going on your filters? Thanks again for the info

I had mine mounted off the battery too. until I installed the walker airsep the intake tube was bigger so I built a new bracket and mounted it where the stock air box was. since this picture I now have an amsoil air filter and an ats manifold and a silver 62 turbo. It still all fits there.

On my first CTD (1991 back in 1991) I started out doing 6,000 mile filter change and Oil analysis. When I started seeing the oil was continuing to still be in servicable condition, I then went to 10,000 mile oil analysis, and I continue that routine today. However, I DO NOT CHANGE filters, unless the lab says it is needed. I have been doing this on the last two CTD trucks I've owned, and the last one had 150,000 with only one oil drain, and three filter changes not including the original application.

Just a quick comment on the frequency of gear box oil changes. I personally run 100k on the NV5600 (Amsoil MTF) and the rear (Amsoil sever gear 75w140). I tow about 45% of the miles I drive running OTR. When I drain these oils they still look good, the parts are clean and I have very minimal fine metallic sludge on the magnets (normal). I look in the manual and it shows 12k for the rear and that just AMAZES me. 12k is NOTHING even when towing hard all the time. I currently have 331k on the truck.

A week after I bought my 2001 HO 6 speed, the Amsoil guy approached me and asked if I was thinking of using Amsoil...

He said all the right stuff, like the transmission and rear end will run 30F cooler than with the stock grease, etc... ( I have trans temp and rear end temp gauages )... he also said that the $12 per quart oil in the transmission was nothing but synthetic 5w40...

Well, I was convinced and we drained everything and put Amsoil in, top to bottom...

After 100 miles, my temp gauges were exactly where they were before the Amsoil, AND, IT DAMN NEAR TORE THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF MY TRUCK !!!!

I made the Amsoil man come back and put all the factory grease and oil's back in it...

I change my oil every 3k, oil filter every 6k, fuel filter every 9k, transmission and transfer case every 24k, rear end every 12k ( because i do nothing but tow, grossing 17k ) and I clean and re-oil my K&N air filter every 12k...

It's cheap insurance and my truck will last well beyond the average 400k useful life...

To those of you who are interested, go to Bob is the Oil Guy and scroll down to the bypass filters section. There are a ton of knowledgeable people on BITOG who have experience with every make and model out there under the sun.

By the way, don't let marketing gimmicks get in the way of the cold hard facts on the different bypass filters out there.
