I have 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 and plan to install a dual bypass system( full flow plus bypass filter under passenger seat area) I read somewhere Amsoil does not recommend dual type on Dodge diesel. Anyone with similar setup have any problems? I ran this on a 98 dodge for 100k miles with no problems. Thanks to all.

I had one on a 2002 Ram 3500 and had perfect service... it was a regular filter and bypass filter setup. Further, I plumbed it into a transmission cooler with a manual bypass for additional engine oil cooling. It helped lower coolant temps too towing 8Klbs over max GCWR.

Have you already purchased the bypass system.... I still have mine and some filters I'll let go cheap.

The don’t recommend it because they were getting some erroneous low oil pressure lights on some early 3rd gens from what I recall. Since all Cummins in Dodge/Ram use the same oil filter there isn’t an adapter listed for any year of Cummins due to this. It likely wouldn’t be an issue on your 01.

When I did the install on my 05, having used several dual remotes in the past, I couldn’t find a good location for the dual system and went single remote.

I’m not even planning to run one on my 18 thou.

I made a bracket which I still have and installed it high on the frame near the turbo... plenty of access and clearance. I also ran it on my 09 4500 high on the pax side firewall for a while before selling the truck and removing again. Never had any oil pressure issues, no false oil pressure lights, nothing to indicate a problem.

On my former 02, oil analysis revealed I could have kept on with just filter changes with the new oil in the filters, but I stopped at 35K miles, more the type A in me than the science.

I had fully documented my install on the TDR because no one I ever knew had plumbed the bypass system into a trans cooler. You would figure pushing oil through all that plumbing, the bypass system AND a trans cooler would have given a delay in reaching pressure, but it did not.

So, like so many things on the TDR, different folks have different experiences with virtually everything. You'll figure out if you want to do it or not.

Just a follow up, although I thought about installing it on my 2017 Ram 5500, I pretty much changed my mind due to cooling and filtration technology is so refined now AND I'm more into keeping truck as stock as possible.

I still have a Platinum FASS fuel pump/filtration system new in the box I won at the last May Madness I attended back in 2010. I never installed it on my 09 4500 because the in tank lift pump and fuel filtration was so good even running Smarty on level 5 kept up just fine. I had installed FASS on my 02 and 03 trucks, though.

I know I'm drifting a little off topic, but just relating great OEM filtration and improved on newer trucks. I would definitely run FASS on 2nd Gens and the 3rd Gen 5.9 trucks prior to in tank pusher pump.

I’m kinda doing this on limited budget so I’ll try by mounting filter assembly on passenger seat bolts. I replaced bolts with new ones about 3/4 in longer. Fabbed bracket there but gives me a hose run of 7 ft(2”)I located filter adapter that I think I used 20 yrs ago. All measurements are same so I’ll hook up and see if oil pressure holds up. Stay tuned..I’m 81 years old so move a little slower but love to tinker with my truck.

One basic question that I really should know. Does oil coming from engine exit the hole nearest edge of adapter and return oil via center hole of adapter? Thanks to all

It should. The flow thru the filter is outside in.

I wish I had known 17 years ago that I would keep this job as long as I have. A bypass system with extended drains would have saved me a bundle. I'm pretty happy with the Fleetguard LF 9028s that I've been using. 30,000 mile oil changes only because I don't like how black the oil gets.

I installed an Amsoil dual bypass system on my '98 at 60k miles. I didn't drain the pan until 290k; I only changed the filters and added make-up oil. The engine's still going strong at 330k, 20 years later. The bypass system essentially moves the full-flow filter to the bypass unit.

I mounted it beside the passenger-side battery; see my design. I built the bracket this way because I didn't want that dynamic load being absorbed by the battery case. I used the parts supplied by Amsoil to make the hoses; they've never leaked.
