I'm coming up on 30,000 miles on my 08 4500 and need to change out the transmission fluid in the Aisin. I looked on the AMSOIL website and their synthetic universal ATF meets the required JWS 3309 spec and I was wondering if anyone was using this fluid. I'm also curious as to whether or not anyone has encountered fluid contamination (metal particles) at 30k that required replacement of the sump filter. Thanks in advance.

Tom, I've been using the Amsoil ATF in my 07. 5 CC 3500 for the last two 30k fluid changes and ready for my 90k service, no problems, fluid looks clean and have not changed the filter yet, but going to do so now.

Will be changing my fluid next week. Am also changing the filter, (for the forth time) there has not been any metal in the filter yet. I'm now at 341,500 miles, we will see what it looks like then. I'm still using Mopar fluid. I get a commercial discount so the price is not out of line from any of the others.

EB,

How many miles do you plan to put on this truck?

How is it holding up compared to your experience with your previous '03?

I'm planning to keep running the truck as long as it is economically possible. To this point all I've done is replace brakes, u-joints and a rail pop-off valve. This is after the early emissions problems were taken care of, since then (200,000 miles) really no problems other than what I'd call normal maintenance. I will probably have to do something about the rear end before much longer. The oil analysis came back with moderate metal, 2 on a scale of 4. It is still not getting hot and the whine isn't any louder so I'm going to keep going till something changes. I really don't see myself getting another truck at this time.

I changed the fluid and filter today, there is still no metal in the filter but I did find a piece of wire (at least that is what it looks like) on the drain plug magnet. The wire is very stiff (tempered?) looks to be stainless and is slightly curly like it might have been a spring. Have no idea where it came from, the transmission is shifting normally and holding like it always has. Anyone have any ideas? The fluid and filter were changed at 342,500 miles.

I haven't heard of anyone with a problem or complaint on an Aisin six speed. I doubt many have seen the inside of one.
