... ... . let him rant. It should be entertaining!

:-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

I was only repeating what I heard from Amsoilers all along Riflesmith. "That Amsoil's fully synthetic oils were the greatest thing going" "Much better than any old hydrocracked overpriced junk labled and sold as a synthetic"

OOppps, looks like the Amsoil corporation has decided to do the same thing. Hence the hypocrisy title given this thread.

The public and the salesman got another Quicky Lube from the Amsoil corporation:D

Bottom line... ... . let the buyer beware. Seems like this whole oil debate leads to advertising that is less than honest. They couldn't, wouldn't or shouldn't go for API approval, they call it this when its that, etc. If a company reduces costs they should reduce price too, if not the consumer is getting cheated.

I won't buy it cause I don't need it. I find the product in question to be hyped in a "designer" sort of way, that is an unproven and unrealistic manner. There will always be a market for an equal product that costs more due to pretentious representation. Do you wear Serengety (sp) or Ray Bans or no name shades that block U. V. light just the same.

In earlier posts in this thread it is clear what the motive behind changing the formula..... to compete! A dealer wrote that! What does that tell you? Now what does it mean when a drop of a mere 20 cents a quart comes with this change. . CORPORATE GREED! Advertising and marketing has become so competitive that the actual quality of the product becomes secondary.

Forget the personal feelings, its only oil!

Why do you feel a company must do this or the customer is being cheated? At the company I work for we are constantly looking for better/cheaper ways to do something. If we are able to do so, that money goes in OUR POCKET, not the customers'.

Let me give you an example. We cast many different alloys in our foundry. Some of the premium alloys don't cost very much more for us to make than some of our standard alloys. But guess what? The price is MUCH higher because WE hold a patent on the process to make this particular alloy. The properties of this premium alloy allow some of our customers to achieve wear lives (our alloys typically go into very abrasive applications) 3 or 4 times as long as the standard alloy.

In the business world you don't set your sell price based on COST, you set it based on VALUE provided to the customer. If the product doesn't provide value to the customer then the customer shouldn't buy it. We don't need anyone acting like Ralph Nader and protecting us from the evil Amsoil empire. If the product isn't worth the price to you, don't buy it.

The problem comes from a misguided/uneducated few who fall prey to this dishonest advertising. The only goal of Don (I think) and myself is to help educate the people who don't know any better and to prevent them from damaging their property or wasting their money. Don is up against amsoil and their false and hypocritical advertising, while I am always trying to help others avoid fruitless wallet-damage from any company. I get very frustrated when I see any company taking advantage of public ignorance. It is a very common and dishonest practice.

i appreciate both points of view.

I have never bought a synthetic in my life due to the hemoragh factor. I due enjoy the use of my "false seals".

All of my engines have lived very long useful lives on less expensive oils with more frequent changes. I classify as super sever duty. As alot of us stop and go peddle to the floor types do.

I cannot justify the increased cost for longer change period.

I think it was foolhardy for amsoil to slap there dealers in the face with this change. Amsoil due to the way it approaches the public should have somewhat lower overhead . I believe there oils could be more competitively priced. If the difference between "high quality" hydrocracked and full is a mear 20 cents In my opinion there holy grail sales pitch is a load of bull. proofs in the pudding. so far my dino oils are working great at a very affordable price. 30 bucks for 6 gallons at the local wholesaler.

Thank you don for bringing this to my attention. Knowledge is power and none of my family is going to get stroked at the local quicky lube.

CC. . With all due respect, I have scars that are older than you, and I dont need you to look out for my best interest. Its my money, and I will spend it where I want. I also support those that make there own choice to run whatever oil they want. You worry about your wallet, and my wife will worry about mine.

For the record... I buy my oil at Wal Mart.

Oh well, life is full of choices. Do the research, or pay. I am not buying the savior routine. Go help someone else, maybe at an old folks home.

Because he has nothing beter to do than stir _____!!! He likes to wind up a few guys, and keep some drama going. Again I do not buy the savior routine. If it smells like a turd and looks like a turd it probably is a TURD!!!!

I am personally glad to see the main target of this, Sled Puller, has not taken the bait. The Muncie crow eating is working on Don so now he is going after Gene with the oil. The whole agenda is prety obvious.

Gene was never my target. Gene just hapened to be the guy who uttered the words "overpriced junk" in regards to hydrocracked base stocks. Now that Amsoil has decided to use them in their products I was wondering if it was still overpriced junk or not.

Further, they are still using the words "synthetic" like Castrol did at first on the packaging. A pratice that they once denounced as false advertising. One of two things happened here. Either Amsoil decided that hydrocracked base oil is truly synthetic which would go against the old theory they held onto about it being cheaper and less worthy of their products or they have decided that profit was more important than quality. I highly doubt the packaging will ever say that the oil is hydroprocessed dino crude oil though.

Just synthetic and at the bottom "the first in synthetics"

Closing this thread, no need to go further down this path. Both sides are represented here and to allow it to continue further will only degrade this further.
