Amsoil is? Less PC Poll

Many a guy has been tricked by Amsoil with this tricky labeling.

I feel for it hook, line and sinker. "meets or exceed API specs" is an opinion from Amsoil. Not from the API. The donut from the API is not present on the bottle and the oil is not licensed or certified.



Broken record statement here: Its kinda like a Doctor saying he meets all the specs of medical school and he never actually went to college or passed any exams. Amsoil has graded their own term papers.

If the oil does not bear the marks I posted it is not API licensed.

We're up to nine now on the number claiming leaks. Other statistics:



0 answering the question "how many miles when you switched?"



0 answering the question (paraphrasing here) "do you believe the leaks would not have occurred if you had switched to API-certified Delvac 1 instead?"



Maybe the real issue is not that Amsoil causes leaks. Maybe the real issue is that synthetic fans sometimes forget to caution people with high-mileage engines not to switch to any synthetic...

We are also up to two in as many days that drained Amsoil after learning more about the product.

I dont really know how cheeseball they are. Amsoilers were the ones who suggested I try a poll and stop the last war. So I started a poll. After reading the latest posts I see you have started a poll of your own too. Is that poll cheeseball as well? First you suggest it then you call it cheeseball and start your own. If the leaks of nine others and the two that drained the oil had voted for Amsoil, would you still call it cheeseball?

And Don, I believ you need to be a bit more specific before you start bragging about 2 guys changing the oil because they"learned" more.



Sometimes, people learn things WRONG.

HMMMmmm - no one forces ANYONE to read these threads, or to vote in polls - and *I* haven't seen/heard any complaints from the system administrator about "eating up space" on the server...



I gotta tell ya, *I* skip over threads that annoy or don't interest me every day - NOR do I get too concerned about the server space they occupy - just because they don't interest ME...



Why is it that only the AMSOIL users/dealers are so vocal in opposing this subject?



OR in demeaning those of us with viewpoints challenging the benefits of synthetic's use? *I* freely acknowledge the general superiority of synthetics, and certainly have NO feelings of anger or resentment towards those who choose to use synthetics - or that they relate their satisfaction with the use of their chosen brand of synthetc oil - so why do YOU feel so angered and threatened when *I*, or others LIKE me offer our own opposing or questioning viewpoint and reasons to NOT using synthetics?



And why attempt to demean us for doing so?



I might add, tho' I frequently induldge in these "synthetics wars", 3 out of MY 4 vehicles (see sig below for pointer) have Mobil 1 in their crankcases! The ONLY engine that does NOT, is my Cummins, cuz *I* really don't see the point in extending its functional life even FURTHER past my OWN!



I use synthetic in the differential of the Dodge, and in the engines of my '98 Camaro SS and '70 Cadillac because THEY see very few miles annually, and sit for extended periods of time - and *I* am convinced of synthetic's superiority in resisting sludge buildup and evaporation of lighter components in such situations. My wife's Mazda gets driven daily, but it's all short-haul mileage, and there also I think the synthetics are better in their resistence to acid accumulation... I can HARDLY be considered a "synthetic hater" - rather, I simply carefully choose when and WHERE to use them to best fit MY operation... AND, *I* have yet to see the oil, or situation, where I would consider extended mileage oil changes a "good thing"...

I am not an Amsoil user, advocate, or dealer.

I didn't vote because the multiple choices did not apply to me.

I use Amsoil in the diffs and use Mobin 1 ATF in the tcase. I use Mobil 1 because I can get it any Autozone and it is convienent.

I don't have any leaks in the diff.



However, I would not put

Amsoil or any synthetice in the engine for the following reasons:



1. I live in the south so cold engine startup is NOT an issue.



2. I can easily dump old oil at a local gargbage transfer station and I use a 5 gallon gas can for my old oil.



3. For me, it is still more cost effective to run dino oil than running a synthetic to extended intervals.



4. Cummins will go easily 500K + miles on dino oil. I don't think you could argue that a synthetic will necessarily protect any better than dino oil. Bear in mind, I don't run the pi$$ out of my motor all the time and usually stay under 90 mph. It sees towing about 6 times a year towing 8,000 lbs when I go 4 wheeling.



I've heard many people (besides Don) complain about excessive oil leaks after going to a synthetic. This would include Mobil 1 too.



It all comes down to personal preference. For me, I cannot see

any compelling reason to go to a synthetic oil in the engine.



I don't blame Don for expressing his experiences and this is indeed a forum for free speech.



I hope I didn't offend any Amsoil dealers as this was not my intent, but rather an opportunity to say my two cents. Besides, how could you not like the smell of Rotella T after an oil change

What you said is fine.



Now, if somebody makes a thread titled,

"How many miles do you run Amsoil?



And somebody rushes in who does not even USE the product and, "warns" them of things that could happen, but never seem to, wouldn't you get a little disgusted after a while?



Synthetics do not cause leaks. They will leak faster.

I stress over and over to people who want to switch, If you have marginal seals or an old engine don't bother.
