I just received my oil analysis report from Blackstone Laboratories (switched from Red Line 15W-40 synthetic to Amsoil 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine synthetic). Although the numbers exhibited a marked improvement between the two oils, what's really interesting is the comment that accompanied the report. The following is a direct quote (my additions for clarification are in brackets): "John; nice improvement. The oil has changed from Red Line to Amsoil and the drop in aluminum and bearings metals is nothing short of remarkable. This oil [Amsoil] was run 8,292 miles, 1,946 miles longer than the last sample [Red Line]. Iron is still read at twice average (see universal avgs) but this metal tends to track with miles use of the oil, and at this use, you can expect high iron normally. Silicon dropped to normal as well. No diesel fuel, moisture or coolant found. Looks okay @ 41,310 mi. "

Notable reductions include: SILICON: Red Line (RL)=20, Amsoil (A)=6; ALUMINUM: (RL)=16, (A)=4; COPPER: (RL)=24, (A)=9; LEAD: (RL)=26, (A)=3.
An interesting side note to this is the use of the K&N OE style flat panel filter with my Air Bulldog induction hood system (i. e. , replacement air box base) throughout the entire oil change interval. Also noteworthy is that both samples submitted were taken exactly the same way, and both used ONLY the Fleetguard LF3894 StrataPore filter (I hadn't added the Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass system yet). My next sample will be with the Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel synthetic along with the Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass system installed.

The only difference will be the method in which the sample will be taken (I added the Amsoil sampling valve at the remote filter mount). The sample mileage will also be of slightly longer duration. All in all, I'm very pleased with the improvement!
