Amsoil Precharger

does anyone have one of these contraptions on their ctd? what are your impressions?

if so, does the unit hold its charge after a couple of months - or what is the longest your rig has sat and you still showed a good charge on your oil psi gauge?

It's probably a decent product. But our Cummins engines are so darn near impossible to wear out, it's probably not needed. Like the 1,000,000 mile Dodge Ram that had a K&N filter and used cheap oil.



If you had a brand new Viper, it may be a good idea.

My concern is leaving my truck set around for a month and potentially up to 3 months. it just sounds like a good idea to precharge after that amount of time. all the oils claim they "adhere" to the metal -- but after an amount of time i would think that more and more oil would drain back into the sump from high points in the engine, creating air pockets and lag getting the oil where it is designed to go.



from the amount of responses, it doesn't look like too many folks have this gizzmo.

I have one on my 2003 Ford X 7. 3L. It works great. They say it will work on engines up to 8 liter. The Precharger holds approx. 100cc of oil. On the 7. 3L it isn't enough to cause the oil pressure to read if it has set for over 10 minutes. All the oil drains out of the journals and ways, but it does work. You can test it with a 9 volt battery (I discovered this after calling tech because my oil pressure wouldn't go up as advertised). I thought I had tapped into a variable 12v source. But once I tested it with the 9v I could hear oil run back into the pan (i. e. it was doing its job). I'm an avid user of pre-oiler devices and this is not my first. I like this design because it is compact and works. Others I have used would run a pump to generate pressure. Even on big engines it would generate pressure because it was continually sucking and pumping until the engine was up and going. The amsoiler uses a set amount and I'm sure on the dodge, it will do the job.



Supposedly this thing will not bleed off----so three months shouldn't be an issue!
