AAM was adiment on no liminted slip additive needed but I found Dealers, independents etc. that say they have had to use it. I talked to Amsoil tech assistance whom said read our labels"says in affect liminted slip additive MAY be needed in certain vehicles" I know I had a heck of a hot shudder towing and on left turns. Chased u/joints/center support bearing and driveline angles. Finally bought some additive at Auto Zone poued it in and withen 20 miles no shudder or turning left and hearing/feeling tires barking, grabbing.

UPDATE: I called three different Dodge dealers to ask for input. Two of the three said USE the additive, and one said "I don't know!?!" One of the dealers I called is a large volume truck dealer with a GREAT reputation, and they told me AAM said that the additive is not needed, however, some vehilces may require it. Sounds like, O. K. if your truck is acting up through it in there. I did speak with a tech at the dealership as well. He said in theory since there are no clutches, you / we & I shouldn't need the additive..... However, our rear axles have cones that may bind up..... hence shudder. The additive helps in these cases. I will be trying the limited slip additive this week and I will report my findings.

Note: The tech I spoke with also owns a 2004 3500 4x4, and he had the same problem. Over the years he has been great to have work on my truck. He owns, drives and works on them for a living..... It is a comfort zone when he has answers based on real garage experience.

Torque on Rear Differential bolts?

What is the Torque on the bolts on the rear differential? I remember when I did mine the first time the repair manual was wrong. I have an 03 with an open AAM axle.

UPDATE #2: I went to the Dodge dealer and the tech I spoke with on the phone was cool enough to stop working on a vehicle to come over and talk with me. Again, he restates everything we talked about on the phone (See above post). He handed me a 4oz. bottle of the Mopar Limited Slip Additive / Friction Modifier, and said, "Good luck, it will take care of the shuddering. "

O. K. So I used a shringe with a small hose, and I pucked out 4oz. of the Amsoil severe gear out of my rear diff. I then added the 4oz. bottle of the Limited Slip Additive. I took my truck for about a 30 mile drive, and I swear the shuddering is gone (At least for now). I know AAM says not to use it, however, the Bottle from Mopar states "Provides optimal friction characteristics required in all DiamlerChrysler vehicles equipped with Sure-Grip or anti-spin limited slip differentials. This additive is intended to eliminate limited slip noise and should be added whenever gear oil is changed. "

All I know is I tried it, because I had nothing to loose... and it worked. I can't believe something from DC WORKS! I better not curse myself.

Good luck!
