I just received my amsoil remote bypass setup. After looking under the hood and the limited space, I wanted to get some opinions on the best place to mount it. There appears to be enough space in front of the passenger side battery to attach a custom made bracket to the fenderwell using the bolts that hold the plastic battery pan to the fenderwell. i also saw one mounted on another D/C on the frame passenger side just below the radiator. that looks a bit low to me and might get knocked off in some rough terrain. Any other options ??

Albacore,
I replaced the top battery strap with my own welded aluminum one, just made the inboard side of it big enough so I could tap the 3/8" -16 hole to mount the Amsoil filter adapter to it. Works like a champ, I think amsoilman also did one but made his out of wood, I think it might have been in issue 25 or 26 of the TDR.

Take a look through the archives... Ted Kidd designed and is now offering for sale a very trick mount that allows installation of the Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass system at the passenger side battery location. He also offers an optional custom set of Aeroquip Teflon/braided stainless steel lines for this particular installation. Very #ad

As I had other accessories in the way of my passenger side battery, I elected to "reinvent the wheel", designing a new wedge shaped mounting platform to allow the installation of the filter mounting base to the frame crossmember. The filters are tucked up way out of the way... below the oil pan, but above the sway bar, tilted downward 10 degrees. When time allows, I'm going to construct a "skid plate" (not that one is even remotely needed... just overkill #ad
). I also fabricated my own Aeroquip Teflon/braided stainless steel lines for this. The project turned out very #ad
In addition, I purchased a very trick billet, block adapter from a fellow TDR member, John Strenkowski (screen name: "CPFF").

Mounted mine under the radiator fan on the frame cross member. I felt there was enough under the hood and any more would limit what room I do have now. The only down side is getting under the truck to change filters. Any spill is on the ground and not the engine. That,I like.
That's my story and it works.

HVAC,

I looked at the pictures at the website you listed, & I noticed that the lines to the bypass were going to the engine rather than the old oil filter location. Is this a better way to plumb the system ??

Besides the "trick billet filter adaptor" John referred to, I also make a custom filter mounting bracket that goes around the passenger side battery. I have a picture of it I could e-mail to you if you are intrested.

Albacore44, I think my lines are typical of a "Bypass Filter" installation. I still use the oem filter location for the primary filter. You may be referring to a Amsoil "Dual Remote" system. In that case you don't have a filter in the oem location like I do. You would have to run both of your lines to the filter housing on the engine if your installing the dual remote. For the bypass system I have removed a plug on the top of the filter housing out of which the oil runs to the bypass filter. Then I drilled and tapped the valve cover into which the return oil flows.

I really like my bypass filter and not too long ago I started a topic regarding my oil analysis. I recommend this product (Amsoil and the bypass filter) based on my experience with it #ad

I am running the same system HVAC is running and I can highly recommend it also. My pump right back into the fill cap.

i just installed tedkidd's battery mount and the amsoil remote "block" last night (that's as far as i got... it was 1030pm. why do i do that? oh, yeah... . girlfriend problems). and it works/looks cool. haven't tried putting the block adapter on or attaching the oil lines yet (i went with ted's ss oil lines... spendy, but they look really cool)... . gotta make up with the gf... . she's got long boney girl arms that will fit #ad
but i'm looking forward to doing it, hopefully this wednesday.
