OK, this might be a bit premature, but,,,,,, I just took the plunge and switched to Amsoil. Understand that I have done a number of things that were supposed to help my milage. AFE, nothin. Exhaust, nada. Xzillarator, MAYBE a half a mpg.

I have NEVER got over 17 hand calculated. My overhead has never read over 18. 4. The trip home which is under 20 miles showed 20. 4 on the overhead. I realize that it's probably not acurate because of the box but it should be off consistently for both oils right?

Anyway, if I can prolong engine life, oil drains AND pick up a couple mpg's I think it will be worth it. Later, RC.

AFE Stage 1 with torque tube= $390. 00

MBRP Muffler and CAT elimination pipe= $210. 00

(mileage increase minimal if any)

Quadzilla Xillaraider XZT= $270. 00

(I just can't drive it slow now) . 5 - 1mpg increase

Amsoil HDD 3000 with Endurance filter= priceless

I have gone from 12. 4 without the above mentioned items to 15. 5.

Yes these are hand calculated miles, my overhead is dead on unless I take an interstate trip then the hand calculated is more. I don't reset mine.

Just keep in mind that as miles pile up on a new engine and drivetrain, things wear in and loosen up, contributing to improved power and economy even if you make NO mods to the truck... ;) :D

I've got 133,000 miles on old girl. Not sure I would think of it as new anymore. ;)

Overhead ticked 23 mpg today. Can't wait to check it by hand on a road trip! Later, RC.

I have a 2006 with the six speed ,I changed all my fluids at 2500 miles,I used amsoil 15w-40 and the new ea filter in the Cummins , this will give you 25k on oil and filter changes. ( I have a cummins in my loader and can run it about 700 hours without any oil changes)The trans and transfer case were changed using amsoil's ATF, Both diff's were drained and severe gear was used in the front and rear(front was low from factory). The trans had neutral gear rattle before the change and it is now gone. Only mod are no cat(blew black soot and moisture all over shop floor and driveway when started) and air filter. We did a trip to grand rapid Michigan from KC . Mileage as follows empty 18. 4@70 mph ,Back with 29' fifth wheel 13. 5 mpg@ 60-62 mph, 12mpg@65 mph and 9. 6 @ 70 mph with 20-25 headwind. Truck now has 7k miles in 2 Months.

Amsoil is all i use

I have 12 different crude oil users on my place the oldest is a 1980 4x4

T----a 5speed unit now has 380K miles motor has never been apart have replaced clutch and trans a few times from stupidity towing objects too heavy. Just purchased a 06 mega cab 3500 waiting to get 3K miles so I can convert to amsoil. Increase my length between oil changes, improved fuel mileage, reduced down time and maintance and has saved me some serious money. Hope it helps the enviroment as well. :D

Wow you guys are switching to synthetic early on. I just recently switched over to amsoil in the motor and 20k and everything at 15k. I put amsoil synthetic in everything after I feel it is broke in enough. I miss the smell of rotella lingering around after shutdown though.

I changed to Amsoil HDD 5-30 at 2500 miles. I just changed it again at 16k and intend to run ~15k intervals with the Dondaldson extended life filters. I still get a whiff of the old "Rotella smella" after an oil change with the Amsoil. :)

A fair number of vehicles come straight off the assembly lines using synthetics - the "break-in" myth with newer vehicles is largely just that, a myth. My Corvette and Camaro SS both had Mobil 1 from the factory - Ford trucks used the same differentials as the Dodges until fairly recently, and filled those with synthetic lube.

If you want to use synthetics, I seriously doubt there would be the slightest problem right from the git-go...

Bio Performance

I use Amsoil thru out my 04 3500. I love it.

With the price of fuel always going up & up, I am always open to other ways to save at the pump. I think I have found it.

My MPG has gone up at least 25%. I used to get about 390 mile out of a tank of fuel. Since I started using Bio Performance I now am getting 550 plus miles from a tank. I am very pleased with the results. I figure I am saving 25 - 50 cents a gallon of fuel. (that is a big of saving.

One other side result is that my exhaust is just blowing hat air with no unused diesel smell. I am not pushing any wasted fuel out my tail pipe.

I know it easy to poh hoo this. I did at 1st as well. However I tried it and it works. Thats the main thing.

How Heavy is Your Foot

I am using Delo 400 changing @15k miles and as long as I keep my size 18 foot from mashing the pedal to the floor to destroy a Duraslacker or a Flowerchoker I get pretty good mileage.

Seriously, empty by hand or overhead I average 19. I have been known to put 20 crossties or close to 3klbs of granite in the bed and driving CAREFULLY,get 16mpg. I think the biggest factor to mpg is how heavy is ones foot. Remember the old slogan,"55 saves lives"? It save fuel too. Where the limit is 70 you will find me at 65. At 65 I'm at 55. I try not to be in a hurry to get where I need to be. Although every once in a while I get on a tear and blow away everything but that celicaGT(the only way he got around me was to pass a car in the right lane on the shoulder at 112 mph. ) Boy do I need another gear!

Slow down. It works. Try it

So you guys really running 10,000+ between oil changes?

Is this with a bypass or not? I use the ELF739 (donaldson enduanace filter). I been chaning the oil at ever 5,000 but I do run lots of fuel out the tail pipe with 70% city driving... .

Maybe I'll start doing 10,000 changes as apposed to 5,000.

With a bypass, what is typical? That might be added at the next oil change for me.

I run 10,000 miles between changes with AMSOIL 15W-40 synthetic. Oil analysis looks good so I might up that interval next time around.

I did the first oil change at 15K from the light duty schedule and put in Amsoil the first time with a Donaldon filter. When I get back home I will install the by pass filter that is good for up to 60K between changes. But the plan is to stay with the 15k intervals for the oil changes and main filter and change the by pass every other time.

I always ran 20,000 miles per change with mine in the 90k miles I had my '01 HO, without bypass. Most of the time I used the Stratapore filter. Oil analysis was always great except for when I tried 5W30 Amsoil once. The wear metals spiked considerably but I attribute some of that to 110F temp we had that year (that's too hot of weather for 5w30 IMO).

I have seen some nice clean motors under the valve covers that have run Amsoil. The '96 I bought that had been run on Delo 400 all its life had a noticeable amount of grime under the valve covers at 350k.
