I put amsoil sae75w-90 with the proper amount of mopar friction modifier. I only towed a small 2 place trailer for about 2000 of the 7500 miles. I keep the speed under 115kms/hr when towing. The problem is i get chatter everytime i make a corner on pavement while applying throttle, kinda hard not to do. Today i changed over to the series 2000 amsoil75w-90. I took it for a 3 hour test drive and no chatter at all, and that is with no friction modifier. I talked to the amsoil tech line and from what information i could pry out of him i found out that the series 2000 has more friction modifier in it. If i had to do it over again i would go right to the series2000 and skip the regular sae75w-90. Has anyone else had similar results, or should i say problems.

The lubricant was not "finished".

The regular 75-90 needs friction modifier, as you found out.

The Series 2000 does not, in most cases.

Shame on the Dealer who sold it to you and did not explain it, or was it an internet sale?

Did you do several tight figure 8s after the change?

Mine is at 120,000, (97)and still does not need it. I wonder what is different in these LS's that some need it and some don't? Can they be set different from the factory? Diffferent material?

Try only half a bottle at a time.

Gene

Gene, the setup AND the manufacture of the LSD's are within tolerances. If everything is on the low side it will be really tight and need modifier regardless of lube, if it is all on the high end it will likely not work well if it works at all with a good synthetic lube. You would drop a brick if you knew how much modifier I put in mine to get the chatter to a decent level. I have never been able to get it completely gone either.

Just keep adding MOPAR friction modifier until the chatter is acceptable to you, add one half bottle at a time and do the figure 8's as Gene suggested. The Mopar modifier is the only one that will make a difference in my truck.

I should have been a bit more specific. I did crazy 8's till i was dizzy in the canadian tire parking lot. Also at first i only put a half bottle in of the mopar friction modifier. It didn't seem to be enough so i put the rest of the bottle in the next day and did figure 8's again. That took the chatter away for about 7500miles.

Another thing i should mention is that when i originally changed the diff oil i cleaned all the gunk out, but when i changed it , it was black sludge. Some diffs must be more sensitive for some unknown reason, lol:confused:

This has been a topic a few times before. It seems some trucks need the friction modifier and some don't. It was siad it has something to due with clutch-pac loosness or tighness between trucks. I ran both Amsoil's regular and series 2000 gear lube in my '95 and did not need to use friction modifier with either lube.

I changed the front diff oil today and it was clear and nice, didn,t even need changing. Night and day compared to the rear oil. I do use the 4WD too. I'm good too go now , thanxs for all the input guys.
