Amsoil Series 3000 HDD Oil ?

A'oil users,



I'm looking for a real-world user's perspective. Since new, I've used Amsoil 15w-40 HDD in my 2001 CTD (104K miles on odometer). However, want to know if anyone has tried the 5w-30 with success. I live in Oklahoma and experience some brutal summer temperatures, will the oil hold up when towing 8K pounds?



I just bought a 04. 5 and will switch it over to Amsoil lubes as well. Appreciate any input. Thanks.

I have used the amsoil 5w-30 in the desert summer. I did not care for it. I noticed more blowby. So now I switch between the 40 and the 30. I run the 40 in the hot months and the 30 in the cold months. I drive enough miles that that works for me.

I also switch off between the two oils. Use 15/40 in the summer and 5/30 in the winter.

I have used the 5W30 Series 3000 since my engine was new, now at 405,000kms ( 251,000 miles) it still works great. I changed the headgasket at 300,000 at which time the engine was clean inside and showing no sign of a ridge at the top of the cylinder bore. It's great oil, I even leave it in longer than I should , oil analyst test show it's good. We don't get what you southerns would call "summer heat", might only see 90F for a day to two per year, so the 5W30 stays in all year.

I have been using Amsoil 3000 series HDD for the past75000 miles with no problems,

what I like is I can change the oil and filter once a year and know I have the best

protection for the engine. just my 2 cents.

I used to use it in my old Jetta, but switched when they came out with the Amsoil 5-40. Plus I think the 5w40 was like $2. 00 per quart cheeper

I appreciate your replies. Sounds as if the 5w-30 oil could work as a year-round lube. I might do as some, though, and switch between 5w-30 and 15w-40.

What filter are you using for one year? Is it the new Amsoil Ea oil filter? If so, what is the part number of the filter recommended for a 2004 truck?

I use the regular Amsoil filter for now but will switch to the new filter after I use the

last one I have. SDF80

I dont' like the 5w-30 for towing or summer heat. It's better than conventional oils, but even Amsoil's own wear scar test show the 15w-40 to have superior protection against wear. It's right on the Amsoil 2. 5gal. jugs.



Having said that, I ran the 5w-30 for 16K on a change and didn't have any issues. Analysis at 9K said it was just fine. Oddly enough, I've never managed to have it in during the winter which is when I'd really like to try it.
