If your heavily into AMSOIL like I am for all the reasons mentioned in this thread, I recommend becoming a preferred customer. Preferred customers get dealer pricing, without all the dealer sales incentive stuff.

With the Donaldson filter you can now go the full 15k with no filter changes needed. Just a heads up.

So with that filter i can get two oil changes out of it right? How many miles are some of u changin your oil?

BSwope,

When I used the Amsoil HDD 15w-40, I used to change the oil every 10K miles. I could have gone the full maximum change interval (25K miles normal, 15K miles severe) recommended by Amsoil, however opted to change at 10K miles because that was the break-even point versus buying petroleum-based oil. And of course, I changed the oil filter every 5K miles (with Fleetguard).

Although, since changing to Amsoil Series 3000 5w-30 HDD oil, I plan to extend my oil change to 15K miles... that's if oil analysis proves I'm getting the protection promised from the use of this product. Once I deplete my stock of Fleetguard filters, I'll switch over to the Donaldson ELF7349 to coincide with oil change interval. Of course, I'll continue to perform oil analysis to confirm protection and continued use of oil. 15K miles of use on 5w-30 will be the break-even point for this product.

I don't tow heavy so this maintenance schedule, although more often than recommended, works for me and doesn't exceed the cost of using a good petroleum-based diesel oil. Getting the oil at dealer price makes this all possible.

Unless you are going to do Oil Analysis I would recommend you change oil and filter at 15k. With oil analysis, you can extend that to filter only changes @ 15k until the analysis deems the oil is no loger suitable for use. You will be adding about 1 quart every 15k to fill the new filter and top off the crankcase. Nice thing there is you can track the trend. Yo can watch to see if/what contaminates ar building up or if your air filter isn't filtering. Pretty neat stuff.

I take it that non of you dealers know much about the filters or who makes them. Any of you have a phone number at amsoil that I can call and ask them about their filters?

The Oil filter for the Dodge/Cummins application is made by "Donaldson". It is a ELF-7349, and has been tested using the ISO standard 4548-12 to remove particles 15 Microns@98. 7% efficient(absolute) This is the best rating in the industry!

They were specificly designed for on-road, heavy duty class 6,7 and 8 vehicles. They use "micro-fiber" technology that results in fibers that have a controlled size, down to sub-micron diameters. This controlled process allows the filters to deliver both higher dirt holding capacity at the same pressure differential, and higher efficiency compared to conventional cellulose filters.

The synthetic media uses a wire screen backing pleated with the media for superior strength and long term durability.

These filters have a service life of 25,000 miles/one year when used with the Amsoil engine oils in "Normal" service, 15,000 miles/one year in "severe" service.

My above post was refering to my first post in this thread. I guess I could have been a little bit clearer on my wording. I see that Amsoil now carries Donanldson filters as a second choice. A couple of years ago, Amsoil carried Hastings filters as a second choice. They did not carry Donaldson. I was wondering why the change.

As far as the Dodge/Cummins application, the Donaldson is the ONLY "Full-Flow"Oil filter offered by Amsoil Inc. They do offer the EaO filters for other applications, and they are an Amsoil product, and not Donaldson. The other choice if there is an application that the EaO's do not cover, is WIX.

The reasoning for the change is the simple fact of enhancing the Amsoil product line and offer newer technologies.
