How many miles are you guys going before you change the oil. Just bought my first amsoil batch today.

Change the filter every 3K and the oil ever 12K

Engine oil filter's @ 7000 miles

Amsoil bypass @ 15,000 miles

Amsoil series 3000 5w30 used to top off crankcase after filter change.

25,000 miles and analysis still looks good.

Sent two oil samples off yesterday one to OIL Analyzers and the other to Monitor.

I've never run engin oil this long and I'm starting to get that uneasy feeling,thats the reason for two samples.

First batch I ran for 15k with a ff change at 7500 and new ff and by-pass with the new oil. The truck was still young and I was not comfortable yet.



Current batch is comming up on 15k with a 7500 filter change. Bypass will change at 15k and skys the limit. We will see.

Puffun' Smoke, I don't have bypass filtration, I run Stratapore filters and go 20,000 miles on my oil change and about 7k on filters (I use 3 filters per change). I analyze my oil every 10k miles and have always come back great. I've run 15W40 Amsoil, 5W30 Amsoil and now have Delvac 1 5W40 in. I got the best numbers on the 15W40 Amsoil (but since I just put the Delvac in 2k ago no sample of it yet). Have 61k on truck now.

Amsoil's recommendation on the Turbo Diesel enigines is:"up to 2 times longer or 6 Months with Oil Analysis. When they say 2 times longer, they mean "equipment Manufacturer's recommendation". I have gone over 140,000 miles on only one oil drain using the by-pass filtration system and doing Oil Analysis every 10,000 miles. The filters were changed only when the oil lab said to change them.



On another note, I have some customers that are not using the by-pass system that are getting 12,000 mile drain intervals, but changing the filter element every 6 months. One such customer has over 350,000 on his truck with no problems!



Personally, I beleive in the

Oil Analysis Program!

I chose to run Amsoil 15-40 syn for 15000 miles changing filter @7,500 miles, using the Stratapore filter only. That meets Cummins service interval reccomendation for the 5. 9ISB, but not that of DC. That's why I use Oil analysis, just to be safe. There are lots of debates as to how often to change your oil. Oil analysis is the ONLY way to know for your truck and your driving situation.

Change every 24k, Filter & sample every 6K!

I run 24 - 26K on the oil. No bypass, just a Stratapore filters changed every 6K with a sample with every filter change. Ran 2 intervals with the 15W40 and 4 on the 5W30. Starting my first with Mobil 5W40. My miles include lots of hard pulling, arctic winters, with a mix of intown short trips.



These engines run very clean. I can not image running less then 5K on even the cheapest oil. Only exception is with a very high HP truck that has a habit of make lots of black smoke. If you never or rarely see smoke out the tailpipe, your oil is staying very clean... . Trust me! Even 5K changes are anal! I think the 10 - 15K with a filter change inbetween is very good safe practice. Pulling a oil sample every once in awhile is a good thing even if you only do 3K changes. A problem (fuel leak, component failure, dirt past Air filter) can do plenty of damage in 3K that short oil changes will not prevent.

Every 10K...filter every 5K

I run the Amsoil 5w30 for 10k before I dump, replace the Stratapore every 5K. According to my oil analysis the oil was ready to go another round but I decided to dump anyway.
