John,
Sorry but it was not me.

Amsoilman,
I am looking forward to getting the same results as you are.

There is nothing to fight about. Both are excellent oils. I have now used Delvac 1 and Amsoil 15W-40 for 7,500 miles each. So far my oil analysis results were comparable. I won’t post the results until I get more data (another 7. 5 K on each type of oil). How you drive your truck will have a much greater effect on your rate of engine wear than any slight difference between the 2 top of the line synthetic oils. Use the one that is most easily available for you. Most any CAT dealer will sell you their version of Delvac 1, which they market under their own brand. The specs are similar or slightly better than Mobil’s own brand.

BTW, the best wear metal results I ever saw were with Delo-400 iso-syn ($1. 60 per quart). An oil change place almost blew my experiment by forgetting to put in my own oil and used Delo instead. I ran the Delo 3200 miles, all towing a boat and hauling a camper at the same time . The iron was only 11 ppm. This was better than I have seen with either Delvac 1 or the Amsoil (at 7500 miles). A guy at the Noria site (http://www.noria.com) found out that Delo-400 is now formulated with Chevron’s unconventional base oil stock, which approaches the performance of group III base stocks such as Castrol Syntec and Petro Canada at a much lower price. This just shows that CH-4 conventional oils have been greatly improved. While they can’t support the extended drain intervals used with synthetics, good conventional oils can provide excellent wear protection.

Brandon,
Are you taking my job as troublemaker?

I think the Delvac is an awesome oil. I like the Amsoil better.
If I could not get Amsoil, I would use Delvac.
I would not hesitate to run Delvac 10,000 miles without samples, probably more with samples.
I AM running the Amsoil much, much farther, changing Amsoil filter at 7500 miles. I do not have a by-pass.

Wayne,
that is an AWESOME photo!
Gene,keepin his cool!

If you do go amsoil, I have found it is worth while to buy a dealership because of the reduced cost. of course, I buy a lot of it for my other vehicles (peterbilt 379 N14 Cummins alone takes 10 gal) But even without the big truck I would find it worthwhile (to buy a dealership. Many of our members would love to sell you one easily and quickly. . . I don't get into it myself.
There are many stories about the reduced wear of amsoil. I put Mega miles on a Harley superglide using 10-40. When the engine was finally tore down, there was virtually no wear. . .

Well, I just returned from Chicago where I picked up 55 gallons of Amsoil 15w-40 and a dual filter/ bypass kit. Glad to hear from what everyone is saying I made a good move. I'm also planning on installing the pre luber from my '94 on the new one. Now I'm just wondering how the heck to make it all fit under the hood!!

Thanks all!
