Thought that some of you lead-footed hot-rod fans might find the following interesting. I recently got a CD with an old blacksmithing magazine on it, and while perusing the old advertisements ran across this entry which caught my eye. It is an advert for a blacksmith's manually cranked forge blower, manufactured by the Roots company.
The interesting part of course is that this beast was the original incarnation of the Roots-type blower so famously used in the GMC series of superchargers. The next time you see a shiny chrome 6-71 puffing life into a fire-breathing top fuel engine, remember that there was a time when even the village blacksmith was supercharging his fire :-laf :-laf
Maybe four or five of these jobbies ganged together in the passenger compartment of a CTD would be a reasonable alternative to twin turbos... and just think of the arm muscles you would be building as you drive around town!
