Where did you get the hood and how much????

Just curious, ..... this is a true ram air hood and now I'm in search to either block it off or to take the SRT-10 intake system and try and figure how to adapt it to my intake. Question, since you obviously have this on your truck, if it is set up as true ram-air will you pick up enough moisture driving in the rain that it would cause any problems with intake or turbo,. . or did you block it off? If you block it off I thought of using a thin piece of black plexiglass to fit inside the hood just behind the vented opening/cowl. Also did you cut out your underhood insulator to fit the new hood and did you have to glue it, as I don't see enough holes for clipping in place as on the old hood. Frankly the new growl sounds pretty cool and at least in this kind of weather until early winter you probably wouldn't have to worry about it. Right? Anyway glad you saved my bacon with the pics. Tks

No, they do not come pre-painted. They come primered in flat black (like the underside of your stock hood), and you must have them painted.

Well, actually the scoop was not designed as a true "functional" ram air. In the SRT-10 truck is just vents the engine compartment and has nothing to do with air induction system. At this time, I have not done anything to modify it. I have been planning on blocking it off during the winter (your plexiglass idea would work well), or using it as a secondary feed to the air filter. I think it would work well to keep a fresh air supply coming, but it would take a significant amount of work to custom build the duct work and you would have to design in some kind of water drain/filter system.

It's in the Mopar Parts Accessory Catalogue at any Dodge dealer. The hood actually has two parts. The Hood and the Cowl Insert. List on the Hood is $600 Retail and Wholesale it's $423, on the Insert it's Retail at $174 and Wholesale at $105. Also they don't come painted. Had to rely on a friend to by Wholesale and another to paint it for me. Seems to me that there is Running Hot and there is Looking Hot. This is Looking Hot. I think it helps any of the late models look better. Sure gets attention on the street.

Do you notice any problems running in the rain? What did you do with the underhood silencing blanket?

Cool hood!! Like the valve cover also Another alternative to the factory hood might be from a magazine I was sent from (Stylin Concepts) Lots of great looking goodies. They have a web site under that name. Don't know anything about their quality maybe someone else can help there. Just have a drip rag to catch your drool when you page through the mag.

Still thinking about just how I want to do that,... if at all. I would have thought I'd have gotten a little help from Chrysler in that you'd think this would be a true ram-air set up for the SRT-10,... not so. It's just like mine in that it's open and it goes no where. I thought I'd take their ducking work and scoop/cowl connection and just modify from there. They have done nothing on that. I may just wait it out and check with Chrysler and see if they have plans to do that and if so I'm sure their engineering would be a whole lot better than my back yard stuff. That's the plan for now... . later.

I've only had it a couple days, and I haven't had to deal with the rain, but I've asked that very question of a couple guys and have been told, "if it were a gasser it might cause trouble but not on the diesel. " And I'm not sure that it wouldn't be ok even on the gasser as that's the way the SRT-10 comes from the factory,... open! I might just blow off the blanket as previous years didn't have it and frankly it has a great growl since I took it off. I like the sound. I've got the block heater and am not concerned in that respect for winter, fyi. Later.

I just purchased the SRT-10 faschia cover for my truck. I have the stock chrome bumper right now, do I need to buy anything else, like a Sport bumper? I don't think the dodge dealer ordered all of the correct parts to make this work.

Are you talking about the stick on hood scoop? I think that is just one piece and you probably have to have it painted to match. I see a lot of them, but that's not the SRT-10 hood. The SRT-10 is an actual replacement hood that has a louvered insert in the middle for fresh air. That is two separate pieces you'd need to buy if you go that way. That insert as I recall is just over a $100-150 and the hood was almost $600. I paid a guy a $100 to paint it and installed it myself. Memory says it was just over $800. Besides getting comments constantly and where did I get it and such it serves as a good way to lower your egts. I reduces the underhood by quite a bit and puts more fresh air under the hood for your air intake which helps egts also. So it is functional in that respect. It doesn't have a direct feed ram air tube or anything to the air intake, but now that I've had it for quite awhile I think it is better this way as this way it lets heat from under hood dissapate quickly. Also I though rain would get in and all over my engine. Something about the design that it doesn't happen, FYI. All in all,..... I'd do it again in a second. Good luck whichever way you go.

It would be nice if someone offered a kit that would make the unit functional for an air intake. I'd bet someone in the gasser performance world will do it eventually (if they haven't already), but the price might be high.

I used to punch louvers in street rod hoods and the most frequently asked question was, "what about rain?"

My answer was always that the fan is blowing rain all over your engine every time you drive in the rain. Remember , when you're driving, the rain is effectively falling sideways - not down!
