I have a fully stock 2500. I recall a discussion a while back... yes before I was a member so I could not chime in at the time... . the discussion was on types of oil to use. I did not here anyone mention Rotella T. Is that a good oil or a bad oil to use?

Time to get the oil changed and I have always used Rotella T as that was what the dealer suggested... . a reputable dealer I might add... . Weaver Bros. in Kirbyville, Texas.

Thanks for your input. wm

rotella is a very good oil, I used it in my big truck (Peterbilt) for break-in; and of course my dodge also.
Synthetic oils, however, are far superior. Less friction, better cold weather starting, hold up better in the heat, last longer, etc, etc. Required by warantee in the drivetrains of most big trucks, nowadays.
I like Amsoil, but I've been a dealer since 1974. Now I buy it by the 55 gal drum. I like their 15-40 marine diesel.

I did not know how to edit my last message.
But what I meant to say was I used the rotella only for break-in. I run Amsoil synthetic in all my vehicles. I am totally sold on synthetics.

Wayne,

Welcome to the TDR!!! As for Rotella, good oil. Only problem I've had with it is the smell for the first 200-300 miles after the oil change. Then everything is fine. As has been stated in these halls before; "Rotella = Smella". As Monkfarm suggests, Amsoil is good as well... but only after the engine is completely broke in (opinions abound as to when that is). I personally use Delo 400. Good non-synthetic oil and the smell only lasts for about 50 miles after the oil change (much more bearable as per the Mrs). May I suggest using the search engine and typing in Rotella if you want MANY other opinions as well. Once again, WELCOME!!

David

Rotella is good stuff. We use it in our Locomotives. I use it in my Ram too. I will probably be going to Synthetics soon though.

Thanks, as usual lot's of good help. Looking at some of the other posts seems like oil became a really hot topic all at the same time.....

Where do I get Amsoil? And where do I get the Fleetgaurd filters? I have been buying the cummins filters at the dealership, cuz I could not find the Fleetguard.

Thanks. wm

Wayne,

If there is no Cummins dealer in reasonable distanct you might try big rig shops. I get my Fleetguard filters at the local Peterbilt shop. You can also order them from Geno's Garage.
