Here is my analysis of a FASS installation on a 2004 Dodge RAM 2500 Quad Cab LWB. My purpose for this writing is to assist other potential self-installers of this quality system.

To put things in perspective, I perform most all of my own work. I have installed 2 GearVendors Overdrive units on Dodges, 4 B&W Turnover Ball Hitches, Ball Joints on both 2WD and 4WD Dodge 2500 & 3500, gauges, etc. I read the instructions a minimum of two times before attempting an install.

The FASS installation is NOT easy - mainly due to tight fit and hard to reach fittings and electrical connections on the Dodge.

The 'universal' mounting bracket can use some help. I will get around to modifying it later. The part of the L shaped bracket that bolts to the bed support was easy enough to install per instructions.

Opportunity 1 - The recommended slots that the pump bracket bolts to is just too close to the leaf spring mount to install the water separator filter once the pump is bolted down. These slots need to be moved in at least 1/2" to clear the leaf spring mount.

Opportunity 2 - These slots need to be moved down 1" to allow the pump motor proper clearance of the filler tube. It is a real tight fit trying to install per photos in the instructions.

Opportunity 3-6 - Have mercy! - "Remember to use oil" for the barbed fittings and push on hoses. BS - what kind of oil will do the job? I tried everything in my shop. I am not a weak man. Pushing the hoses onto the barbs is hindered by performing this task underneath the truck. A good quality hose with hose clamps would be easier. Custom fit lines with flare fittings would be a huge improvement. Maybe even "loaning" one of these with a sell of a FASS - http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/pushosastool.html .

Opportunity 7 - locating the power source for the factory lift pump by using the supplied photo is not that good. A description something like - remove the lift pump power source wire located at the top of the lift pump closest to the firewall. It is the only wire that will correctly plug in and lock in place. Impossible to see in the photo 4A.

Priming the system according to the Dodge Owner's Manual (FASS instructions) did not work. I opened the water drain valve on the water separator filter to confirm that fuel was being pumped - it was. I then loosened the hose fitting on the injection pump and cycled the pump three times to clear the air out of the filter and hoses. Tightened the fitting and truck started right up.

I am looking forward to many years of use with the FASS.

An update for the first 1,000 miles after the install - Engine is definitely quieter and seems to run smoother. A seat-of-the pants feeling of more power too. I will know more when I pull a heavier load.

Thats funny, mine fit right in according to the instructions. The mounting was easy except the fact that the bracketry from my side steps got in the way and had to be modified. I will however agree that the fittings were a pain in the keester to get together and I ended up putting hose clamps on them anyhow.
