So I had to run out to the store this morning to get some milk. Occasionally I'll pick up the Wall St. Journal to read on a day off like today. It's an intelligent paper that rides the fence on propaganda. Anyway, I'm on page 3, and I spot a story about a New Years Eve tradition that happens in southwestern North Carolina.

The story goes on to explain that this event is in response to the ball drop in Times Square on New Years Eve. Only instead of a crystal ball, they're dropping an Opossum. I don't think they actually kill it, but it's jest towards the big city. It sounds like a cool gathering with Bluegrass and muskets fired and all kinda fanfare. NOW enter PETA, the animal rights activists. They want to stop this. It's been a battle for a while. But NYE2015, there will be a live 'possum being dropped in a plexiglass box. This reminds me of when we swung a dead possum on a rope past unsuspecting peers is the woods waaay back when there were woods to play in around here.
What gets my pressure up about this, is the PETA interference. I mean they're not killing the bugger. There are humans killing humans over politics and religion in the world (you all know what I mean), and nobody says anything about this. But a possum in a box? I mean really! This is an outrage! Let Brasstown, NC have their thing. I would like to see it myself!
