I would like to say that the quality is somewhat lacking... . is there anything that can be done to address that.

I turned the bandwidth setting up 50% yesterday to 1200kb/sec from 800kb/sec to see what that does. It will only work on new videos being uploaded because older videos are already converted. I'll be monitoring it.
